Can Natural Nails Be Patched?

Yesterday, one of my fingernail split vertically from the tip anout 1/16th on an inch downward. Can this kind of a split be patched or something by a manicurist? I've always had natural nails, so I know nothing of what manicurists can do with such problems.

The nail is catching on everything and clipping it short or filing it down, with still leave the split as my nails are short anyway.
