Calista Brush Perfector Question

Hello,

I received this as a Christmas gift. Recently I watched a presentation on air and was impressed with what the product could do. Anyway, I bought this because I have thick coarse hair that is hard to tame. I used to use a curling iron YEARS ago but stopped because it was damaging my hair. The Calista design is supposed to be more forgiving, gentler on hair. My question/concern is this...I do not see any difference in using this over a tradition brush style curling iron? Am I missing something....need suggestions on how to get the most out of this product from people who may have purchased it.
