As a kid, I remember my mom using this. It was in red packaging that worked similarly to boxed matches where the inner part slid out from the outside part. The inside was split into two sections; one that held the mascara and the other side for the little brush. I thought it was long gone. So there are companies who are making it again?

The Maybelline cake mascara was my first mascara, back in the 7th grade. When I was visiting my mother and sister-in-law this past summer, I saw that my sister-in-law had one on the side of her sink. She's either had this relic for decades (and still uses it) or has somehow found it still sold somewhere.

Beware, don't let your eyes water in the slightest! A runny mess in the rain or snow too.

I was just telling my 11 year old granddaughter today about my first mascara, which was the Maybelline one in the red box. I remember spitting on it too!
We have come a long way, baby. I was telling her how I used to buy my first makeup at Woolworth's and I think the only selections were Cover Girl and Maybelline. She couldn't even fathom that!

There are some options on Amazon. Pretty good reviews too.

Cake mascara is powdered mascara pressed into a case. You have to wet the powder to apply it. The upside is you have a totally even application on the brush, and there is no liquid to dry out (as mascara in tubes does). The downside is no one found a way to make cake mascara water-resistent. If your eyes tear easily (due to weather or allergies); you are going to a wedding or funeral; there's a forecast of precipitation; if it's a humid day-- you probably should not use cake mascara.
