Re: Blackheads from sunscreen

Finding an SPF you like, goes well under your makeup, not too greasy, etc. is almost impossible. Ever look in the drugstore or online at the hundreds of choices?

I'm not a primer gal, but instead of using it under makeup, I've started using it after skincare and before applying sunscreen to keep it from being so close to my skin. The primer seems to lock in and block the spf as that next step.

The primer placement doesn't seem to affect the efficency of the sunscreen. I haven't had any redness from the sun and I do usually burn within 5 minutes just going back and forth to the car if I don't have on spf.

@Shanus

Chemical sunscreens, such as Neutrogena's Clear Face, should be applied directly on clean skin so that it absorbs into the skin as it should. Chemical sunscreens should be applied like a serum b/c it needs to absorb and provide the spf as listed on the bottle. Chemicals in the sunscreen need to bind to proteins inside the skin in order for them to react and turn into the spf compound needed to protect the skin from UV light. Nothing should be applied, except vitamin c serum, on the skin prior to using a chemical sunscreen.

ETA-

That's the reason why the directions say to wait 15 minutes (some brands say 30 minutes) before going out under the sun to give the sunscreen enough time to absorb. Chemical sunscreen left on top of the skin is destroyed once the sun hits it and then it becomes useless. It must be absorbed to work properly.

@I am still oxox   I'm trying not to preach, but ANYTHING you're doing to prevent wrinkles, sagging, etc. is useless without using sunscreen every day rain or shine. Ask any derm....1. Cleanse 2. Moisturize 3. Sunscreen are the basics.

Uh, forgetting aging skin...skin cancer?

Re: blackheads from sunscreen

I too have pores that easily clog.  I exfoliate and use products without silicones because they seem to be the worst for me.  I HATE sunscreen on my face so I only use it when I am actually out in the sun for awhile such as gardening, swimming, etc.  Just normal running errands and going in and our of the car does not require sunscreen in my opinion.  This year I tried Beekman and so far so good.  It works and it is not greasy. But I still use it "as needed".  That's just me.

Micellar water works well to remove sunscreen. It's especially good at removing oil-based anything plus most other cosmetics. I use a wash cloth doused with micellar water and wipe my face/neck and then proceed with my normal cleansing.

@I am still oxox

I will be 60 soon . I still have sensitve, acne prone skin. Its prone to blackheads and little whiteheads . I can wear chemical or mineral sunscreen equally fine . I found I need to do a double cleanse at night . Even if I wear just sunscreen . It has made a huge difference for me . I first remove my sunscreen and makeup with a balm clenser . It dissolves everything , then I use my regular gentle cleanser . My skin is sensitve and gets easily clogged . I can't do scrubs ,exfoliants . I have tried primers but didn't like them .
