Bio-identical estrogen cream applied on face for wrinkles???

So today I went to a doctor who specializes in bio-identical hormone therapy. My husband has had great success with this doctor and he recommended I see him for my menopausal symptoms which are now getting intolerable. After a lenghy consultation, I was told to try an estrogen cream and to take some Progesterone in capsule form. He suggested I apply the estrogen cream to my face because, according to him, it helps to smooth out wrinkles. I asked if this was the only place I should apply it to, but he said I could apply it anywhere else. The face, he said, is just where many women prefer to apply it for this extra benefit. So my question to you, particularly if you have used estrogen creams (bio-identical), is whether you've heard this before. I don't think I'd like to mess with my face and my current skin care routine. I'm very happy with my face and the results I've achieved lately with facials, masks, some lasers, peels, and even microdermabrasion. Any input is greatly appreciated.

I used bioidentical progesterone cream that I tried on my face. I used it on my wrists, stomach, inner thighs & alternated.

Before I applied that to my face I would want to know what all the ingredients are first.

What type of specialist is your doctor? I ask because you mentioned that your husband goes to him but that you saw him for menopausal problems.

This doctor is an alternative medicine physician. My husband started seeing him about 2 years ago when his testosterone was very low. This doctor created a program for him which included testosterone shots at low levels. My husband became a new person- in the good sense. He was no longer dragging his feet, exhausted, unable to sleep, gaining weight, and feeling "down" all the time. This doctor is a well recognized guy- not a quack.

I used several compounded creams for many years, but had to stop all estrogen when they found a uterine tumor.  I was thankful that it had not spread.

Having said that, I never felt better when I used hormones.  Good energy, skin, hair and just general well being.  Stopping has been difficult, but at 65, I have just a few hot flashes.  However, I am sad that I will no longer have the benefits they can offer as I age.

Never heard of using it on one's face.  I always used it on my thighs, abdomen or wrists.

My doctor ran extensive blood work to see what needed balancing and the creams were compounded from those results.  She also treated men and women and had a regular practice, but also specialized in hormone therapy.  Men often suffer hormone imbalance, but rarely do anything about it.

I could never convince my DH to check into it.

I say if it's working for you, be happy!

Okay. I had a feeling that was the case. Thanks for your response.

My natural Estriol cream (Smoky Mountain Naturals - check them out on Amazon!) is recommended for face, especially around the eyes.

I have used it there but the dose is 1/4 teaspoon & that is way more than one needs around the eyes or even on the entire face. If you do this be sure to use part of your regular dose for your face; do not use more than that.

I don't take oral hormone replacement but I do take a DIM capsule. I would not use my Progesterone creme on my face. Besides, I only use that for 14 days per month. Estriol is used every day.

I hope that you had some blood tests that measure your estrogen and progesterone levels.  Without understanding those levels, advice to use any cream is not very good advice.  In my experience, those tests are easily done and not any more expensive than any other blood test.  My regular doctor ordered the tests and it turned out that my estrogen levels were ok but my progesterone was not.  You can't tell that based on symptoms alone.

A friend of mine used the estrogen cream and she was told to put it on her abdomen at bedtime because the skin warmth there would help it to absorb better.

I tried Premarin on my face for awhile, at the suggestion of some TV doctor.  Then my doctor took me off Premarin and that was the end of that.  I stick to my Dr. Denese, Philosophy, and Ole Henrikson.

@depglass - No one should be using Premarin for anything. I'm glad you stopped using it.
