Bifocal woes

Got my first pair of bifocals last month...HATE them! Everyone assures me I'll "get used to them" but so far they just make me nauseated. Those of you who have bifocals--how long did it take for you to adjust? Any helpful hints? The optician said I can bring them back for a refund and I'm pretty close to doing just that.
