@Shanus Great insight!  I never thought about FDA but that's an important point.

I always check the ingredient lists.  I have seen recently more products without Avobenzone as an ingredient and wondered if more people were like me and reacted badly to it.

I see some formulas rely heavily on diamethacone, glycerin, etc. and some have LONG lists of things I don't recognize.  I  shy away from things with a long list of plant extracts that perhaps are potential sources of irritation.

And like you, I think that some things are worth a larger "investment". . . it's just figuring out which ones.

And also, European and Japanese beauty products seem to have a different attitude, focus, or maybe just thinking about things than we have.  For example, Clarins has some good products, as well as bust enhancing things that we don't see much in USA offerings!  Woman Very Happy

But my skin looks better than even two weeks ago since I lightened up on the cleansers and harsher things!

I am 71. i have used a lot of products in the day, but tend to stick with one brand for a long time. I have been using Principal Secret Reclaim for about 15 years. My skin is great.

Manula of Isomers said once - if something is working and your skin likes it, stick with it.

also Dr. Dray of Youtube said that serums are just a watery moisturizer and debunks expensive skincare from a dr. and science based reviews. She is a good one to watch.

When I tried to add more expensive, perfumed or stronger stuff I regretted it. My skin gets red and irritated quite easily. I do use Perlier honey products on the weekend to give myself a break and because Skip's grandmother could use them with no problems. sometimes I take a bottle of Perlier honey pearls and do that for a month.

if you want something new I would just add one thing at a time. also, go to a counter at Macys of the products you might like to try and get a sample. Clarins is a beautiful line and gives great samples.

oh. and this winter I tried Laroche Posay baume b 3 as an extra layer at night and that was great=at CVS. also Avene at ulta, they are similar. Those lines are very affordable , get the nod from Dr.Dray and did not upset my skin. good for winter in MA.

good luck!

@donna71   IMHO, I don't take the advice of any YouTubers  seriously...Dr. Dray and other derms online included. Many are given products to review and most of the time, they're paid, so I don't trust their favorable  recommendations.

Dr.Dray always states if she is reviewing a product she received and she really only like super basic stuff like LaRoche Posy, Avene, Cetaphil and Cerave. Basic stuff that I have seen in my doctor's office. She is very against perfume and unncessary ingredients. I just watched an episode titled -don't buy these expensive brands. She also did a review of the different kinds of retin a, and what to believe. I like that she puts up research from derm journals to prove her point.

anyway, that is your choice not to like her, or any other youtubers, I totally get it. She is quite different. in my opimiom , than those girls selling stuff for companies. I learned a lot from Dr. Dray, I really do not buy or wish I could buy expensive stuff anymore.

totally get it if you don't like her.

thanks

@spent2much

Hi I agree with others that say if something is working to stick with it , but we all like to try new things and get bored with our routine no matter how good it is . I agree with Paula's Choice . I will soon be 58 and still have combination acne prone sensitive skin . It is difficult to find skin care because many products for over 50 skin can be too rich and acne prone products can be drying .  i also have been following Dr. Dray for 2 years and she has made a huge difference in my skin care and the money I spend in skin care . She really breaks down ingredients and what to look for when buying skincare .

Paula's choice is a wonderful brand . i use a few of their products from her Calm line . If you purchased something you don't like or doesnt work ( I have ) returns are quick

Good luck

@spent2much  I as well have been using the same products for years & do not think I will try another brand as they work so well for me at 63 yrs. old. Since you have Beekman on your mind then you should purchase it & give it a go....I did use Purity & their moisturizer for a few yrs. Even tho I have a normal skin type, I found that after a while of using Purity face wash that it was stripping my skin & was drying. I switched over to  Josie Maran's Face Milk Serum, Face butter moisturizer & Argan oil. I keep my routine simple......I wash my Face with Tatcha cleansing oil & once or twice a wk. use her Face Polish in Gentle. Oh, I also us Josie's spf on my face daily. I have no problems with my skin as well & if I did then I would use different products to address it.

I finally decided to try Dr. Denese's TSV the other day.  At this point, I'd like to avoid wrinkles... or at least minimize them.  We'll see how this works.

Thanks to each of you for your responses.

I'm thankful I don't share this opinion ALL the time.  Finding James Welsh on YT has been the biggest boost in my skin care routine which in turn has made the biggest POSITIVE change in my complexion EVER.

"I do love Kylie's vanilla milk toner -- the smell alone is worth it. "

That's exactly what I was thinking when I read vanilla milk toner.  Is it a traditional toner or a more hydrating toner?  Sound like it might be the latter.

Nevermind.  I just read about it on the Ulta website.  It's in my cart for my daughter's or my next trip to the city.  Can't wait!  If it was at Sephora, I would get free shipping but Ulta's free shipping is $35.  Not sure why I'm getting free shipping for ANY purchase at Sephora.  Is everyone?
