Benefits of using Styling Cream?

I know that Chaz always mentions the importance of using the SC when using heat to dry your hair because it protects your hair. My question is: If I let my hair air dry until it is just damp and use my blow dryer on cool to complete the drying should I still use SC? What other benefits will I get from using the SC? Will it help hold my natural curls?
