yes, that's the one! with the round head.

Is my description accurate, about lifting straight up, moving, straight down,etc?

This sounds much more time consuming than sweeping the roller,but possibly more accurate.

Do you think this type is more effective than the roller?

I see more room for error....(for myself!)

Stamps allow for more control and they are easier to use on certain areas. For example, the pen style stamp is easier to use in smaller areas like around the lips and under the eyes. Larger, rectangular stamps are good for larger areas like the chest and neck. 

Rollers are fine for most areas, but sometimes they just don't fit into smaller areas or areas where rolling is awkward and potentially damaging (dragging).
