I have gotten hooked on the content on YouTube and TikTok by various beauty Vloggers. I like the ones who review drugstore and prestige makeup and also like to watch them apply the makeup. I just watched a video by Tati she was unboxing promo boxes sent by various cosmetics companies, she got some really good stuff. I often wonder if they are sent products do they feel like they have to give the products a good review for fear of getting cut off?

@Jordan2 - there is a lot of debate over your question so you should get a range of responses. The YTers that I watch get PR - some get more than others - they are up front about it when they do and when they use it in a video. I've heard them give lukewarm or negative reviews about some of the products they've received.

Some here say they all give rave reviews on all the makeup they are sent in PR so they'll keep getting PR. Well, they don't watch the same girls I do. The ones I watch seem to have no problem giving products a big thumbs down. I can think for myself. If I let someone influence me, it's on ME, not them. I've bought 1000s of dollars of makeup. I've been happy with at least 95% of it.

Tati was my first beauty YTer. She left YT for awhile. My relationship with her is complicated lol I hung onto every word she said when I first discovered her. Now years later, I still watch her but she's doing a lot of drugstore (they all seem to be) and that's not what I buy but I still enjoy HER, so I watch. They moved to Dallas (from WA) last year I'm thisclose to her. I would love to meet her some day.

Some Vloggers say they aren't sponsored. I have to wonder do they make money from this, how can they afford to buy the many products they review (especially those that review really expensive prestige lines)?

@Jordan2 - I don't know how they make their money. Know that it has something to do with how many subscribers they have and how many "likes" I think they get on their videos. They don't make their money just from sponsors. I don't know how they are paid by sponsors whether its financial or products. Some also have discount codes for various beauty websites and I know they get certain perks from that too. Some of the ones I watch say they pay for beauty products on their own. Figure they have credit cards just like the rest of the us and assume that their YT channel is their business so what beauty products they buy to use on their channel is a business expense and tax deductible like any other business expense.

I happen to know one. She gets products, is paid by sponsors, paid from ads, paid when you use sponsored links for products…. etc. But, it’s her only job and it’s full time. She has a great income according to her.

Some of these YT vloggers make millions. Some pretend to make millions and go as far as to have photos taken on private jets, airports and fake exotic locations. They pretend to shop at high-end stores and eat at expensive restaurants. It's all about the image. It gets their videos watched, "likes" and ad revenues. They are paid by YT and sponsors and links that get clicked.

money is made when we watch the video, how long you stay and the ads. there is a certain level you need to reach as far as subscribers

and these companies send boxes of products

@Jordan2 I get it. I watch the makeup artists from time to time (and the dermatologists to see what's new and exciting.

The makeup YOUTUBERS can receive products without asking for them. The companies want their products seen especially by those who have a large audience. The Youtuber can make a "deal" to positively review them or some let the companies know they'd like to show the products, but don't want to be obligated to give a positive review or comments if they don't like them.

I receive some skincare and makeup that I have signed up for (sent an application to recieve promotional makeup), sent to me by other makeup artist friends or counter artists I've had a long relationship with at large department stores who would

like me to promote their line.

I'm not a YTber, but when I do a client's makeup and they enjoy a product, I can refer them to the website or store that sent it. I have no obligation to do that. I wait for the client to ask. It's a WIN/WIN for me. The client's happy and the makeup line sells her what she'd like to use on her own. I may receive more makeup from the company if that happens.

The makeup artists online like Tati and others have the opportunity to try the entire line of shades they are sent. They can either keep them, donate or put them in their kit to use on clients.

Let me know if you'd like some others to follow, but it can be addictive. Lol I find myself on there way too often.
