Re: Beauty Purchases This Week; 10/19/23

@JudyL ,

I wanted to bring this thread up from the 19th because my Laura Geller order came and I was able to compare the Laura Geller Very Black Cherry Hydrating Jelly Lip Balm to Clinique's Black Honey Almost Lipstick.

They are not the same color. They're different colors.

Although they are both sheer, the Clinique is a much more sheer color and is lighter in color than the Black Cherry. It is almost more of a red-brown in color on me. I always thought that it was very pretty.

The Very Black Cherry does have more of a red-berry tone to it, and while sheer, it is darker than the Clinique Black Honey. I think that it's really beautiful, and I like that it's sheer and hydrating, too.

My lips have maintained their natural pink color, but now that I'm in menopause, like many, my top lip has shrunk/disappeared a bit.

I haven't tried the gold-dipped lipstick trio yet.

I looked at the Starfish Island Blush N Brighten that came in the order. It is really beautiful for a blush with marbling in it. The way that this compact was mixed, half of it has the raspberry color swirled in it. I am looking forward to using it. Smiley Happy

@Toppers3  - Thank you for your review.  I have the Clinique Black Honey and the TARTE maracuja juicy lip in Honeysuckle.  Both are very similar in color but the TARTE shows up a bit better on me and has longer staying power.  I like them both.  Thanks for letting the review on the LG product as that may be a good alternative to my other two.  Also someone on the board mentioned using the NYX lip liner in Prune when she wore her Clinique and it is perfect - just in case you wanted a lip liner too.

Thanks for your comments, @JudyL . Smiley Happy

I did see that other member mention the prune lip liner.

Although I think that colored lip liners are very pretty, with my lips being on the small side, I think that I do better with clear lip liners, so those are the type that I use.

Has anyone heard of the brand UOMA? I purchased this blush yesterday at Sephora.

The shade is called black Pearl.

@LTT1  - It sounds vaguely familiar.  Think I've heard of it.

I've never heard of it @LTT1 .

That's a very pretty blush, though. Smiley Happy

@Toppers3 I got that Laura Geller Gold-dipped lipstick trio and I am really disappointed in them.  The formula is fine, feels nice on the lips, but the colors are nothing like what they looked like on my computer screen or even on the box they come in.  The spice one has definite orange tones in it which is a huge no for me.  The Magnificently Mauve ( I think that's the name) is supposed to be the darkest of the bunch.  To me, it looked to be like a raisin berry tone on her website.  It looks more mauve in the tube but takes on a brownish color on my lips although not very vibrant.  I guess it's okay to wear when I'm sans makeup, but I want more lip color when I'm made up.

Yes I have heard of them. I think the first place I saw this brand was in Ulta many years ago and then a few years ago I saw them in Walmart.  I had bottles of foundation with different colored lids.  I'm sorry I don't know anything about them

Thanks for your review of Laura's gold-dipped lipstick trio, @Icegoddess .

Of course with all of them being gold-dipped, it's hard to tell/know what they look like until we try them and we put them on.

I try and go by how her lipsticks either look on the computer screen or how they look on the model's lips, but I know that that isn't always the closest or the most accurate way to judge.

I'm really porcelain fair-skinned, so I'll be interested to see how they'll look on me.

I seldom return any lipsticks. If anything, I'll play around with lip colors and I'll mix one with another, etc. if one shade isn't quite doing it for

me. Smiley Happy

I'll get back to all of you here and let you know how it goes for me. I know that others may be looking for holiday gifts at this time of the year, if they're looking to gift some of her products.

I really do like her lipsticks and Hydrating Jelly Balms.

Those Jelly Balms are very moisturizing on your lips, plus they don't feather, either.

They're meant to be like a cross between a balm and a lipstick so if someone is looking for something sheer but with a nice bit of color, those balms are the way to go. Smiley Happy
