I was planning to purchase a Beauty Blender sponge. In my "research" I found and watched a number of Youtube comparisons of the original Blender and the Real Techniques one. Now I'm a little confused. The Real Techniques did REALLY WELL and a couple liked it even a little better due to it having a flat side. Would love to hear from those of you who are using a sponge to apply your makeup. What brand do you like and why? Have any of you used both? Pros and cons? Thank you for helping me make a decision on what to purchase.

I've used flat sponges for blending and never found anything even close to how well I blend with my finger. Plus, I have my finger for life!

Over the years I've used all kinds of sponges and brushes-- including Beauty Blender and Real Techniques. I think for many people the flat edge of the Real Techniques sponge provides more control. The Beauty Blender is a fine sponge too, but I prefer Real Techniques. There's a broad variance in price, and nothing glaring I can cite about quality. Let's face it, sponges of any price get nasty and require frequent discarding. If you use nothing other than this one sponge to apply foundation, you'll be lucky if it lasts three months. If you switch up your applicator (brushes, other sponges, fingers) you might stretch a sponge up to 6 months.

I have both and didn't think that the Real Techniques sponge would compare and I was totally wrong. It is much better than the Beauty Blender in my opinion and I think it will hold up better. They're having a sale at Ulta on the 2 pack, buy 1 and get the other 1/2 off. I stocked up since I never want to be without. It just feels more comfortable in your hand and it's larger which makes it easier to use especially with the flat side. Get the Real Techniques one, you won't be sorry.

I love the Real Techniques sponge. No way I'd pay for a Beauty Blender when the RT sponge is so similar and so much more affordable. the flat side is really nice - I use it to apply powder sometimes. It works really well for that as well as my foundation, cream blush, etc.
I've also used brushes and prefer the sponge because it's so much easier to wash and dry than foundation brushes. I just put a drop of dish soap on it and give it some squeezes under running water, then set it down in a well-ventilated area and it's dry the next time I need it. So easy.

I liked the Real Techniques sponge very much, but I found it broke down quickly on the flat side. I washed it the same way I wash the beautyblender, so I'm not sure why it did that. Maybe I just got a dud, but I'm sticking with the beautyblender for now. I may try another RT down the road because it is so much more affordable.

My BB is getting a crack in it, though I have been happy with how well it works. Based on this thread, I might have to pick up a Miracle Sponge to see if it works as well for me.

Always have used a BB. Saw the reviews of the RT and took the plunge. Hated it and gave them to my daughters. It all depends what your personal preference is. RT has the awesome flat side which is great, but it is denser and harder. BB is the softest sponge I've ever tried and feels airy to me-for lack of a better word. I LOVE it. I tried them side by side, and the finish for my skin is better with a BB. Truly pressed the product in seemlessly. I use the smaller size for blush and just recently broke down and got the microminis for under my eyes. Totally love! These perform the best IMO, better than Artis brushes or any brush for that matter. I do have sensitive, mature, dry skin with mild rosacea and will slurge on beauty blenders because with these-you get what you pay for.

I have both and like both. I don't think the BB is worth $20 -- I got mine from a Sephora Favorites set.
