Re: BURNING QUESTIONS ANYONE?

Hi! I have a question for you! I am 64 yoa  female, brown hair and hazel eyes. My eyes are very deep set with the lower lid having a very small surface. But then I do have the kinda puffy lids above. I have no idea how to make my eyes pop and look more balanced. Just no shiny/glittery stuff please and thanks very much! Oh and I always read that purplish eyeliner os the best color for my eye color?

@Shanus - Thanks for doing this! It's great to have our own personal makeup artist!

I love playing with eye makeup, well really ALL makeup! I used to wear mostly neutral shadows with colored liners. My eyes are hazel, more light amber, but they can take on a green cast depending on what I wear. I used to tightline the top lash line and just do the outer half of my lower lid. I wore mascara on upper and lower lashes.

I have deep set and hooded eyes that I've had my whole life (They always called my dad's eyes "bedroom eyes." They looked good on him! My mom had beautiful round eyes with the perfect shape. She always wore shadow to match her outfit. Sadly I didn't inherit hers!)

I went to S while the Anastasia team was there. I just had a question about color for the eyebrow pencil I use, but the rep wanted to do my whole face. I think their foundation had just come out.

She told me I shouldn't be wearing liner OR mascara on my bottom lashes. This was a while ago, and I'm still following her advice.

I know you can't "see" me, but can you comment on this?

Also, what is your favorite mascara to use on someone like me - short to average, straight lashes?

Thanks!  Smiley Happy

@Shanus   Since you mentioned the brand Charlotte Tilbury, have you tried her lipstick in the color Pillow Talk?  Do you buy her products from her website or in a store?  TYIA!

@Toots711   Yes, I have 3 CT products...The Filmstar Bronzer, Pillow Talk Lipstick and the Pillow Talk liner. I don't think the other of her other products are worth that much money. I purchased the products I have from Nordstrom or Sephora...so long ago, I don't remember. I know it wasn't from her site.

Perfect timing!   What do you think about this deal?

I had been looking at some "fun" wigs at Amazon a couple of days ago, and today they sent me an email with some colorful wigs I might be interested in.

Great buy - 9 wigs for $39!  All 9 colors!

@LillyandHobo   Since you say your eyes are rather puffy and deep set, I wouldn't concentrate much color on eyes. Wear shadow in a skin tone shade and don't try to go darker in the crease. Deep set eyes need the eye socket to come forward...stay light with the same lid shade. I'd do a tightline or dot between the lashes w/ a dark navy pencil, that's waterproof. I'd concentrate on a good concealer and 2 coats of mascara. Play up other areas: blush and a great lip color.

Ironically, using a light shimmer shade of shadow will bring the focus to the top lid and away from any imbalace. No liner below and I'd stay away from any obvious colors in shadow or liner.

@beach-mom   When I get this question, it's usually the same answer: I prefer not to use liner on the bottom, mascara either. If you must, find a mid-tone taupe shadow and use a liner brush under your lashes and smudge.

Hooded lids can be sexy! Think Lauren Bacall, Sharon Stone, Jennifer Lawrence, etc. Don't put a darker color to create a crease. Try using a crease color a little darker than your skin tone and go in the crease and slightly above...cheat a crease. Be sure to blend. You're creating a crease where you'd like it to be...any darker shades will be obvious. With your eye color, I'd stay light and neutral on the lid and a light-medium apricot, camel, or use your blush or bronzer in the crease. The more natural you go, the better.

My motto is always be happy with what you have and if there's a feature that's not your favorite, go light and natural and play up other areas on your face.

Hi @Shanus

Do you have recommendation on what type of Retin A to start with? I've used Differin for several months due to breakouts in my 50's (pre-menopause hormones?) and am now able to tolerate that every other night. Now I'd like to switch to Retin A but would like to know if I should use cream or gel and if I need to start at lowest strength since my skin is somewhat used to retinoid. Thanks!

@Natureluvr   Retin A is a prescription and should be monitored by your derm when you're starting out. The lowest % is .05.

'Retin-A' is one brand name for the drug tretinoin. There are other companies who make their version also. Retin-A brand comes in .025%, .05% and .1%.

RA comes in either gel or cream formulations. Gels are usually recommended for people with oily skin and creams for normal/dry skin.

Re: BURNING QUESTIONS ANYONE?

@Toots7

I have a couple of CT products.  Filmstar Bronze and Glow. And Airbrush Flawless Finish powder compact.  The Filmstar is fine.  Probably better than fine but it's just not something I reach for often.  Now that I've got my makeup decluttered and organized and I know where everything is, I'm going to try it again.  BUT, her Airbrush Flawless Finish is AMAZING!  IMO, the hype surrounding this powder compact is real!
