We call this in nursing "clubbing" of the nail b/c they look like this.

Some people with some cardiac conditions have this nail appearance.

These are horrible.  Why would anyone want to spend so much time and money to achieve this look?

Hmm....I don't know if this would be practical. Sometimes people get their nails all blinged out, but then it gets in the way of doing everyday things. Some of the designs are nice, though.
