sahmiam: What autoimmune issues are the problem? I wouldn't ask but I get Botox injections in my pelvic floor to control very painful spasms. I have a bunch of autoimmune diseases: Crohn's, Sjogren's are the ones you might be familiar with.
The Botox is similar to that used for face.
I'm seventy three and am frequently told I don't look it. If I had the money I'd get Invisaline braces. I am vain but on a tight budget. I'm getting a hearing aid; that's going to take all my fun money.

@lavendar I have Hashimoto's and Celiac. Once an autoimmune issue is detected and diagnosed, the concern is twofold:
1) Once the door is open, the odds of addition autoimmune issues intensifies. It's rare that a person has only 1 autoimmune condition/disease. You become a much higher risk for multiple ones once you have one.
2) Introducing anything that could trigger the body's autoimmune response is asking for possible serious health issues. Botox and fillers are NOT suggested for anyone with any autoimmune disease. I've spoken to too many specialists and plastic surgeons to doubt the research I've done plus what I've been told (and sat through via lectures at the university level). Are there doctors who will do them knowing this? Absolutely. Would I want that person as my doctor? Absolutely NOT.
The irony is that when you have an autoimmune disease that is HELPED with Botox, it doesn't appear to trigger issues. One specialist told me it's like taking Advil for a headache. If you have a headache, it works. If you don't, it usually gives you a stomachache/nausea. A close friend of mine gets Botox to assist with her cerebral palsy; she goes to Kennedy Krieger at Hopkins for her injections. Botox is an amazing drug that helps many (like yourself) and rarely do you hear of any issues. In my case, it would be solely cosmetic and therefore, can't be justified. I don't want to open the proverbial Pandora's box just to deal with wrinkles. Not worth the risk to me. : )
Thank you, SuzyQ3, for that. : )

Well, hopefully (if Medicare approves it, which I'm told they usually do), I'll be getting Botox shot into my back and butt!
Yepper! I've had everything (things most of you have never heard of) shot into my back (severe pain). So now the Dr has told me (hopefully) I'll be able to get it put into my back and fanny!
I'm 71 but I'm looking forward to having a wrinkle free fanny! Ha! Unfortunately, no one will see it because I'm a widow, but at least I'll know it's wrinkle free.
Actually, it's to relax the muscles in my back. We will see...wish me luck.
I told the Dr the other day if insurance won't pay for it, I will. She said it's $500. Hopefully they'll approve it, but one way or another I'm going to try it. Anything that will give me some relief even if it's only for a short time.

Sahmiam, You are correct about autoimmune diseases. There is a saying,"If you have one, you'll get two more."
I have four.
I worked for the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation for ten years and met quite a few people with Celiac. This was a long time ago; they needed help getting a chapter going. People with Crohn's and Colitis are at risk for Celiac. I did an article for them in the newsletter I did for the Foundation hoping to find more people with Celiac. Today they'd be flooded with responses.
I'm concerned about making antibodies to the Botox I'm getting. There would be no harm to me but the Botox would be ineffective. The vaginal problems I have are from the Sjogren's. One of my doctors gets it for upper back spasms. My hairdresser gets it for a neck problem.
I react to many medications; I'd be nervous about using any fillers.
I don't understand anyone being critical about it though. I'd have my neck done if I weren't concerned about unnecessary surgery.

I used to get botox and fillers regularly until I lost my job a few years ago. I am working again and want to try some again soon. I loved it, it made a real difference but not a major difference. I just always felt fresher and more rested. My doctor took a conservative approach and I was always happy with it. Can't wait to get it again sometime. I say good to anyone who wants to use and good to those who don't. We all have to make our choices and isn't wonderful that we can?
