The 70% silica found in bamboo is what the industry can extract from the plant. That amount is what most all bamboo silica extracts contain. 'Extraction' is done by chemically altering the bamboo plant where it breaks it apart and then purified to isolate the extracted silica. The purification process is only as good as 70% silica for bamboo and the other 30% is bamboo plant parts. It's not the same as crushed bamboo plant powder.

I saw a doctor on TV talking about Biotin and this is what he said
I don't know what is considered high doses but it's something to think about or look into.

- In a recent study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, researchers found at high doses, the popular vitamin supplement, biotin could mask heart trouble by interfering with some vital medical tests. It can cause falsely low results in a blood test that measures the protein troponin—which is used to help diagnose heart attacks.
I don't know what is considered high doses but it's something to think about or look into.
Some lab chemicals used to test certain health conditions contain biotin itself. In other words, biotin is part of the test kit used in testing. Biotin is an ingredient found in some lab reagents.

I have doubled up on the amount of Biotin I am taking...and my nails are still growing super fast...but now I can see less hair at the shower drain..... dr and hairdresser say the thinning is due to age....and both suggested Biotin. Can't hurt. I have read in here that Biotin can interfere with the results if you are having medical tests. I had DH ask his cardiologist since he also takes it...and he said Biotin won't have any effect on his EKGs or other tests.

And that's why you're supposed to say that you're taking Biotin if you are having blood tests, correct?

There is no set max dosage, but from what I can tell, 10,000 mcg daily is the max.

@JeanLouiseFinch wrote:@SilleeMee - could we please revisit your thoughts on the Bamboo Extract vs. Silica, in regards to using it alone or as a partnering supple with the biotin? TIA
Bamboo silica extract contains 70% silicon dioxide (aka silica or silicon). Also available is 100% pure silicon dioxide powder. Either can be taken with other supps w/o concern.
Silica is often added to other supps in capsule form as an anti-caking ingredient...keeps the powder free flowing. It's found in the biotin mentioned earlier.
And the silica is not the same thing as bamboo extract where the whole plant is pulverized and put in capsule, correct? Something about not knowing the percentage of silica when it's done that way?
I take Silica for my bones. I don't want to take BE because I have thyroid disease and there are warnings concerning taking BE. I haven't seen any effect on my hair though.

I take 10,000 mcg of biotin in soft gel form daily. The added oil is non GMO coconut oil, as opposed to soybean oil. 360 softgels / $17.96 on an Amazon Prime subscription. They're made in the USA, too.
I also partner bamboo extract with the biotin.

Go easy on your kidneys, they will thank you ☺️
LOL that is all it did for me....increased my trips to the bathroom all day long! Gave to my husband to try and he had the same experience LOL! He only took it for 2 days and said enough of that. I kept taking it for 2 weeks hoping that would stop but finally gave up and tossed it out. I must not be deficient in biotin.
Also lab tests for thyroid function will be incorrect if you take this...so stop about 1 week prior to a test.

@tsavorite, I've been taking Biotin for years and never noticed an increased need to P. I have noticed a decreased ability to hold it though, LOL. Comes with age.
I do have thyroid disease, so I do stop taking it prior to ANY known blood tests since biotin can also be used as a reagent in other tests. If it's an impromptu blood test, I would make it a point to let them know about my use also.
