I don't understand why many women totally give up when they get past 60. I always try to look as best I can.  I don't want gray hair, and I try to dress nicely for whatever I am doing, and go out well groomed and looking good.

I want some natural makeup to make me look better and I spend a lot of money keeping my hair a good blonde color and with a good cut that is stylish and easy care.

Those are my choices, not the choices of others.  I am by no means obsessed with my looks, although by some standards I would be, and don't spend lots of time on them.  But I want to be as attractive as I can within my definition of reasonable for ME.

I think that like most things in life it boils down to individual choices and definitions, and what your expectations are for where you are in life.  It's different strokes for different folks!  I love to hear opinions; I don't like to hear put-downs of others.  Does't that always say more about the person making the put-downs anyway?

There is a big difference between maintaining a healthy lifestyle and taking care of yourself both physically, mentally & spiritually and being a “beauty product addict”.
When you take care of yourself you also can accept aging naturally. Yes, excellent skin care is a must, sunscreen, etc. But you aren’t always looking for a miracle product to erase aging, you aren’t needing to pile on makeup.
You don’t need every product that salespeople show you. Your philosophy is makeup should enhance not cover your skin.
Choosing to color hair is a personal preference with many women now opting to let the gray show. How beautiful it looks on so many woman.

I find it rather ironic that some women that post regularly on the Beaty subforum seem to love to bash women that enjoy makeup, hair color or skincare.  If your idea of aging gracefully is to no longer color your hair or wear makeup, that's your choice.  But why do you bother reading a beauty forum?  Just because some of us still care about that stuff doesn't make us obsessed.

We all have the right to our own choices and while we might not understand a choice that's different than ours, why the need to denigrate it?  I don't get it.  I happen to love makeup and will wear it and highlight my hair until I can no longer do so.  If that's not what you want to do, that's fine.  But why bother posting on this forum if you've decided to go gray and be makeup free?

@Sooner  I agree 100% with everything you said. Many women where I live “shlep” around w/ no makeup, have let their weight go at least 30 lbs. over since I’ve known them & dress in what looks like pjs. That’s their choice. Except for my choice not to color my hair, I’m always dressed stylishly...even my gym clothing match. With jeans & tee, I add a scarf, or necklace or lightweight short jacket...an outfit. I like looking my best. I feel better. That’s my decision for myself and no one else.

Sometimes, others read that someone else “fixes up” and if they don’t dress & do makeup, assume it’s a put down on them. It’s not. As you said, it’s a choice.

@HB glamma You’re correct that there is no miracle product. I’ve said that here many times. I’ve also said to find your HG skincare and stick w/ it. Spending time & money trying new creams & serums is pointless when you already have what works for your skin.

As far as beauty addicts, professionally I have to purchase a variety and a lot, but personally, I have my 5 minute basic  face (a few extras for special occasions) & those products have not varied unless discontinued or prices went out of sight & I substituted another of the same at a more affordable price. I marvel at the posters here purchasing multiple shadow palettes, lipsticks, changing mascaras/liners thinking something will be so much better than what they use, but it’s their choice and their money.

@Shanus, I like your posts - they are thought provoking.  I just turned 63 and I’m counting down to Medicare, which I’m truly looking forward to from a cost perspective.  But that’s another thread.

As far as beauty at this stage of my life, the more natural the better, although in all honesty I have a large storage compartment to store my cosmetics.  How can it take 80 pounds of stuff to get the natural look?

Most days I don’t wear makeup but I clean up after my walk and Pilates, so I’m presentable.  I love make-up and must confess to buying more than I really need at this stage of my life.  I wear make-up for Church on Sunday and for date night with my husband.  I get a kick out of mixing my eye colors or trying other looks to complement my outfit.  It’s funny but I can’t wait to get that stuff off my face when we get home!  😯

I’m fine with what I do and it works for me and my life.

Again, thank you for posting!

@MJDinVegas. I’m glad you enjoy my posts. I hope that it’s helpful info. If makeup makes you happy, have at it. Some women enjoy doing a full face each day. Don’t feel badly about washing it off ASAP. I do the same as soon as I’m in for the day & that’s w/ the bare minimum amount of makeup. I put my serum & moisturizer back on a cleansed face. Everyone is different. Some women would never leave the house w/ as little mu as I wear and I would never wear as much as they do every day just to run errands, etc.

If you’re content w/ your routine and buying makeup, keep doing it. That’s your prerogative. 🌺

You know there is no shame in aging, I never considered my Grams or my Babcia old. To me they were beautiful in every way, aging and what they looked like was never an issue. In this day and age it seems to be all about how well a person ages and if they don't age well there's shame in that. When I think about it though, it's really all about the money. It costs a lot for plastic surgery, state of the art lotions and potions, vitamins, hair color, gym memberships, expensive exercise equipment for the home, it just goes on and on.

@blackhole99  Where to start: I’ve never advocated plastic surgery. I have pushed good skincare...many drugstore brands and my Neutrogena spf is also drugstore. I have exercise brands from Target and a few free weights for home use when I’m too lazy to go to the gym or bad weather. I have a beginning yoga dvd and mat fromTJ Maxx and I also walk the dogs an hour a day...so far nothing expensive. Hair color, if that’s your choice is available at drugstore or for less at Sally’s. I swear I don’t do any vitamins or supplements...I’ve never mentioned it here. I personally feel I eat a healthy diet w/ lots of fruits, veggies and get what I need from my food. My doc has never suggested that I take any.

The most important thing about aging is a positive attitude and your state of mind. All the creams & mu available won’t make you happy if you don’t accept your age, help yourself feel good about it and move forward w/ a smile. 💕

@ShanusI agree with you, but I'm no way as frugal as you sound in your post. I don't color my hair and would not have plastic surgery or injections, but I do like the latest skin care , make up and clothes and do have a Pilates, but no gym membership. What I really wanted to convey was, my grandmother's didn't have the time or money to worry about growing old: they were busy with living full lives. Their idea of exercise was working in their gardens, cleaning their homes and walking to and from church on a Sunday. If it bothered them or they had a poor opinion of themselves because they were growing old, they never complained about it and it didn't show.
