Yes, sitting in the sun without protection for up to 25 minutes per day is recommended by derms as a good source of Vit D. I did that for years and now I have legs and arms covered in brown spots, yuck!!

Ms Sillee, sometimes you're not so silly. I was surrounded by bushes except for the sidewalk leading off of the porch (sigh)

Thank you @Tinkrbl44
I wasn't paying attention to the differences.

That's what I told my mom once. She used to advocate that I sit out in the sun for at least 10 minutes a day for Vit D. I'd say no thanks. I don't want those brown spots.

The difference between sunscreen and sunblock is screen filters only UV-B where block filters both UV-A + UV-B.
UV-A tans you so sunscreen will allow you to get a tan but it will allow UV-B to cause cancer.
It only takes about 5 to 10 minutes to get sun damage. Running to your mailbox won't do it but a walk around the block will.

I would sit out the 25 minutes in more recent years but had enough sense to put a towel over my face and chest. so the brown spots are on arms and legs only. not done it since 2015, learned my lesson, I hate sunless tanners so I am just plain pale and live with it

I will be wearing sunblock from head to toe when I go outside and I am outside a lot ... running, gardening, hiking, playing on the beach. I will also be buying more clothing that offers sun protection. May even wear the sun hats I have.
I am now a reformed sun goddess. Sigh.

@monicakm As one who has had many skin cancers (face, arms, legs) I say: Wear it!
What possible objection can a reasonably intelligent person have to wearing sunscreen? Especially with all the many options out there. i use Neutrogena's 60+ serum sunscreen, which goes on smoothly and is immediately absorbed. I might add, i was never a sun-worshipper, just a half-Irish person with unfortunate propensities.

I'd like to know who told you I was reasonably intelligent
I'll have to go buy some. Only thing I have here is sunblock for the babies when they were here (playing outside and in the sprinkler system. They're 17 and 15 now so I'm sure it's too old.
