Live in Seattle and skin cancer happens to people here too.
I grew up in a southern CA beach town in the '60s, @kate2357, and was always tan. I get yearly derm checkups. No issues so far. My husband hasn't been so lucky despite his sun shirts and caps.

Good you go get checkups. As I wrote above, I am a reformed sun goddess...and reformers are the worst for making their opinions known! Lol.
I read yesterday men are more likely to get skin cancer than women. They think because men are outside more and less likely to wear sunscreen or check themselves for weird spots. We women tend to look at ourselves more critically.
Take care and best wishes for your dh.

@monicakm @tansy Re: pedicaure after knee/hip replacement
I have had both knees & both hips replaced- the first was a hip & the orthopd was emphatic about me premedicatiing with antibiotics prior ro getting a pedicure (& any dental work, including just a cleaning). That has been stressed to me after each replacement. Perhaps, monicakm, you should ask you ortho surgeon.l

I never used sunscreen either. I'm very fair and hated sitting in the sun. Also hated the greasy, heavy feel of sunscreen. 8 got one really good sunburn in my life, when I went to an air show where there was no shade. Otherwise, I always shunned the sun.
There's nothing like a referral to a university cancer center to change your mind about the sunscreen. Twice I've had basal cell carcinomas removed with rather extensive Mohs surgery. It wasn't pleasant, I looked like a crime victim with dark stitches and black eyes the evening of my last surgery.
My dad, a lifetime athlete with an olive complexion, had a dangerous Melanoma on his elbow. It made a sunscreen believer out of him too.
So much sun is reflected and you don't realize you're getting the exposure. @SilleeMee mentioned some ways but she didn't mention from snow or through auto glass, where it's intensified. Who doesn't regularly ride in a car?
So enjoy your carefree lifestyle but be prepared to buy even more makeup to cover the scars from the surgery you may need one day, especially start shopping for an industrial strength concealer.

Is the Dyna Trap like the old bug zapper?
It's not a zapper. It draws the bugs in like the zapper, but when they get close to the light, it sucks them in. You put it AWAY from where you hang out because you don't want to be between the bug and the trap.
I don't know about June bugs. It was not on the list. They only showed 6 bugs on the QVC presentation (Mosquitoes, flies, moths, wasps, hornets, and stink bugs). Looking at their website, they also claim biting midges & no-see-ums, japanese beetles, gnats, blow flies, drain flies, muscids (whatever that is). I don't know about the gnats though. I do sometimes have trouble with some flying bug that likes to buzz right in your ear. Drives me crazy. That's when I head for the bug spray.

@monicakm FYI. I know you have had knee replacement surgery and are scheduled to have the other one done. It is recommended that you do not expose your surgical scar to sunlight for a few years.
You scar can become permanently darker and never really fade away so that it can barely be seen.

Vitamin C serum is something which should be applied under sunscreen b/c it can boost the benefits of SPF by attacking any free radicals that form in the skin when exposed to sunlight. VC molecules act like sponges that absorb and neutralize aging free radicals so even if you don't normally wear a VC serum it would be a good thing to incorporate it into your routine for when you are applying your sunscreen.

LOLOL
Honestly, I'm not scolding you here. but I'm a bit surprised you ... or all people here .... aren't more up to speed on sun screens and sun blocks ... it's all about skin care and you seem to be well versed in that.
Well, now you know. Have a safe summer sunning ...
