As Much As I Love Niacinamide For My Face...

[ Edited ]

how am I just learning about niacinamide supplements?

I watch this Dr on You Tube.  And yes I know he's a DC.  Last night this title (YT video) caught my attention

The Most Powerful Skin Vitamin: Not Vitamin C or E

and  bought Niacinamide capsules from Amazon

This is the kind I take.  A serving is two capsules, but I believe one suffices.

I've also been taking MSM for about a year.  I get it from Amazon.

Be sure and check out the "side effects" of niacinamide beforehand.

That's always good advice, @Desertdi.  While some negative side effects are possible, niacinamide is usually well tolerated and they are rare.  Niacinamide is water soluble so whatever the body doesn't use gets eliminated rather than stored.  The one key thing to look for, IMO, is to get a product that specifies that it's non-flushing.

According to WebMD, niacinamide has no effect on high cholestrol. . For that, you needed to take niacin , not niacinamide.  The two can be easily confused.

Niacinamide can be found in certain foods, also.

Niacin and niacinamide have identical function when used as vitamins but the way they make us feel, and their side effects, differs between those two supps, for example flushing from niacin is one difference.

Yes, that's the reason my Dr. suggested taking Niacinamide vs Niacin.  It was a last ditch effort at best to try and not have to take a statin.  Some of the other supplements, like Red Yeast Rice, that is often recommended for reducing cholesterol have the exact same side effects as a statin, so I actually feel safer taking a prescrption statin over something not as well regulated.
