@sonechko Gosh! Thanks!
when my Mom was alive, she used to ask me,"when are you going to cut your hair?"
I would tell her, "When I am old"......
still waiting.....LOL

I have always worn my hair very long down to my knees. I didnt cut my hair until I was 56 yo. Is strange in my culture women are expected to wear their hair long and usually never cut it. But living here I have had women say the expectation is when over 40 short hair is appriopriate. I would say wear it any way one wishes and forget about society expextations. If I wasnt terminally ill my hair would still be worn down to my knees. LOL

HOWEVER, anyone, at ANY AGE should have a BFF who will tell them when they look snazzy and/or when they look awful, and said BFF should be held totally free of negative reactions to the opinion expressed.
ITA that it's not age related ...... but ....... are there really that many women walking around that honestly can't tell if something is flattering or not?

Unfortunately long hair does not look good on me with my facial features. I look my best with chin length hair that I have layered all over and at the ears. I also do not look my age, probably due to good genes on both sides of the family.

Once a woman reaches a certain age it just looks like she is desperately holding on to her youth. And I highly doubt that thought hasn't crossed the mind of many people who see very long hair on a woman past 50...may not tell her to her face though. They will clamor how it's fine to do what you want but with it comes a price.
That's your internal dialogue and has no basis in fact of why women wear their hair long.

While I agree with many of your posts, this time I think your comments are just too much of a generalization. A LOT of 50 year old women don't look anywhere near 50, so are we talking about her actual age, or when she starts to look "50"?
I think this falls into the category of many other fashion decisions: .... Can the woman pull it off? Is it flattering to her face? Is the hair in good condition?
Not all young women with long hair look stylish, either. Some keep their hair long for financial reasons ... they can't afford the upkeep of haircuts, etc. It's just cheaper to wash it and do pretty much nothing else.
IMO, the most important consideration is does it flatter?, regardless of actual length.

I will be 60 in August-- my hair is salt & pepper in color--and just down to my waist. I've had long and short hair--and never felt comfortable in short hair. I get compliments all the time on how nice my hair looks. I've never dyed or highlighted it. I don't think it is anyone's business how long I wear my hair--whatever my age. I'm not hurting anyone and this is how I feel confident and comfortable. This is a non-issue for me.
