Are parabens better than alternatives?

A post from futurederm today. No comment from me, just passing it on!

Scientific Beauty Fact of the Day: If you're trying to avoid parabens, you may also want to avoid products with the paraben alternative benzoic acid. Studies show benzoic acid not only enhances the penetration ability of other ingredients into the skin (Regulatory Toxicology and Pharmacology, 2004), but also has estrogenic effects in mice as well (Environmental Research, 1997). For the record, we prefer parabens here at FutureDerm, because they are proven to be anti-bacterial and anti-fungal, and not definitively proven to be estrogenic when topically applied to the skin.
