I do wear mine very short because I'm on a computer all day.  The shape is round.  They are hard gel, with gel polish on top.  I get them refilled every 5 weeks.  I could stretch it to 6 weeks, but they get too long & I lose my ability to type.  How these women wear these extra long stiletto nails is beyond me!

I did try dip powder, but hard gel (for me anyway) is indestructible.  I do wear gloves when washing dishes or cleaning in general, but I would do that with or without gel nails.
