Re: Apparently you cannot talk about irresponsible comments, POOF

The comment about gypsies stealing from tourists is sadly correct.I am Italian,in fact I go to Italy every summer and I had to go back for a funeral a few weeks ago.Italians are fed up with a particular group of illegal immigrants coming from an Eastern country.Obviously not every citizen from that particular country is a criminal. My parents had a housekeeper from there. She was hardworking, but she did steal some of my cosmetics and lied about it.I always suspected she took some of my clothes too.She stole groceries from the family where she was working before, but we found out later. In Italy we used to sleep every night with all windows open in the summer. Then after the Berlin wall went down we started getting invaded by a few millions illegal aliens and crime went up.Now everyone has air conditioning and alarm systems.

Hosts are sales people. They are not Doctors, or medical experts. Take what they say as a grain of salt. They are there to sell, period. They have everything they sell. Ever hear the song" Love the one you are with". That's their method to selling. Good, bad or in different. In other words, don't take what they say a gospel.

Why anyone wAtching would actually take anything from a host as gospel is beyond d me. They all just get on air and start talking. Crazy nonsense, sales pitches, truth stretching, and outright lies.....it's all there. It is more absurd with certain hosts. ...especially the host who said this. Take anything they say with a grain of salt.

In reference to the Roma people, the term "gypsy" is, in fact considered derogatory. I'm sure we are all aware of the fact that this popularion was part of Hitler's lists. Perhaps it is because of the numerous televised programs about the lifestyle that we feel more comfortable referring to "them" as "gypsies" than is probably a good idea. Any language that implies "them/us" thinking is probably a mistake anyway, as far as I'm concerned.

CrystalBlue1 was performing a public service calling out the person who implied one vacation's worth of sun was OK for people who have had Melanoma. I've been happy with the new kinder gentler moderators, but they are in error poofing this subject.

And I'm thinking they've gotten a little poof happy... One thread was deleted earlier today that violated absolutely no standards and contained absolutely no snarky remarks, no disagreements and no mention of hosts or vendors. It was simply a discussion of handbags currently sold on QVC. It appears as though the moderator misjudged the title and cut it loose without even looking... Not a huge issue, but QVC needs to ensure their moderators are held accountable and make reasoned, reasonable and informed decisions about what stays and what goes. At the end of the day, who's monitoring the monitors?

I may be in a position to answer this very question tomorrow.

I'll be very interested in hearing about that CrissoSmile

As would I!

Didn't mean to be cryptic. You will see that Social Team responded to my post on QTalk. I received a phone call but was out when they called. I am going to try to call back tomorrow.

I'll be around off and on today, more on this evening. Maybe you could do a shout out thread to me? We haven't chatted for a few daysSmile

Re: Apparently you cannot talk about irresponsible comments, POOF

Why is it that when someone shouts about poofing, that thread lasts almost forever no matter where the thread wanders?

I think it's because webbie doesn't do the poofing. Ticked-off posters request it and for some reason they get their way. I even think it could be automatic. Report/Poof. You really think someone reads every word of every post? I don't - not here, not on Facebook, not anywhere.

Re: Apparently you cannot talk about irresponsible comments, POOF

My aunt Luzie is the only one of seven kids to pass and her mother/my granny is still alive in her 90s. Luzie's husband no longer associates with that strip mall church since it was discovered that during her illness they talked her into going with them to New Orleans to help "those poor people after Katrina". They were standing in a group and waiting to cross the road when she fainted and no one, NO ONE bothered to catch her, so she cracked her head on the sidewalk. That is when her brain cancer was discovered, but they first thought that she got an infection from all the bacteria on the sidewalk. When my aunts got to New Orleans, Luzie had $2000 in $1 bills. When my aunts questioned why she had that much in her purse, the church said it was for them. They didn't get the money. I mean who else besides waitresses and strippers have that many one dollar bills. NO ONE. It became a huge thing that opened my uncle's eyes as to what that church was really about.

My grandpa smoked a pipe every day of his life and was exposed to all those pesticides and fertilizers that they breathed in while on the tractor, so those all contributed to the lung cancer. We didn't and still don't have those fancy air conditioned cabbed tractors with all that computer stuff and neither do many farmers, so they are exposed to the chemicals and the like when they are out just plowing the earth let alone spreading the junk. Cotton really is a heavy pesticide and defoliant crop to grow. Being exposed to those chemicals while they are still fresh can land you in the hospital in serious condition. People that night hunt often end up in the hospital since they will be out in the back of the cotton fields hunting. Neither activity is responsible. They are developing better chemicals and methods for all crops, so that is a plus.

In southwest Georgia we have Providence Canyon State Park. The canyon was created solely but erosion from farming fields. It happened in a very short period of time in our history, so they learned very quickly how to create the fields so the soil didn't washout.

Here is a video with history about it from the Smithsonian http://www.smithsonianchannel.com/videos/providence-canyon/14393

It is a great 7 mile, backwoods hike, but you have to be somewhat fit, though my 78 year old granny does it and so do the kids, or you can do the 3 mile hike or just go down into the canyon and play, look at the animal tracks, and go back to the visitor's center for a picnic. It really is a great way of opening people's eyes to how small changes can have huge consequences just like skipping the sun screen.

As for the careless comments by the presenter, she will end up eating her words at some point in her life. The sun is not something to not take seriously. As we loose more of our ozone layer, the risk of sun expose becomes more damaging. I know that many countries and states have put in force limits to tanning beds especially with age limits. I have classmates from high school that looked great with their tans, but now, in their 30s, they look like that lady from Something About Mary.

Reading the amazing stories of survival and of tragic loss from the disease gives me a better sense as to the basis of outrage some people are having towards the flippant comment like that from a survivor. I find it very disturbing and normally I wouldn't say something like this but I truly think that she should go onair and make a statement that her comment was reckless and irresponsible. I really feel that strongly about it. It will never happen but she really should.

I think that is why the original post was deleted. TV people make an effort to say things like " We cannot make any medical claims, etc." I', sure the Q attorneys have sent the host a gentle reminder to watch what you say.

I totally agree HappyDaze, some person could be out there thinking it is okay to "worship" the sun for a week especially when you are a cancer survivor. My original post on this subject that was poofed was in no way meant to be nasty or bashing but I was appalled at how a public figure could make a statement so ridiculous and irresponsibly wrong and think that is okay. she should definitely apologize to the people.
