None of the grocery stores are open around here, and I live in a large city. Target nor Walmart are open. CVS/Walgreens/gas stations open and that's about it. I think some McDonalds are open depending upon the location. Panera is not open. Movie theaters are open.

I agree. NONE of the major grocery stores are open in Indianapolis. I don't think most are open around the Country. There may be a very few, but I doubt it.

It may be different where you are, but most everything is closed where I live, even the groceries.

That is true. People also have emergencies and need medicine. I appreciate the drugstore being open.

Absolutely true! Many employees also need the money and do not mind working, especially if they don't celebrate Chistmas, and so many don't.

Man I did not have crock pot liners and walgreens did not sell them so I put a roast in the oven. hope it comes out ok. lol

Most stores are closed today and this includes grocery stores. The only stores that are opened are some Walgreen's, CVS and RiteAid stores. Some of these stores are opened 24 hours and need to be for the emergency prescription that has to be filled. Some of the other of these convenience stores are open limited hours and not their regular hours. I would imagine that many of the local mom and pop stores are also opened including seven 11 and similar stores. Only some restaurants are opened on Christmas Day and are opened every year on this day. Most who have to work on Christmas usually get another day off such as Thanksgiving or New Years Eve or New Years Day. I know many people who work in restaurants and some are opened if they are the fancier restaurants. Also Chinese restaurants are usually always opened on Christmas Day.

I was going to say the same thing willomenia. Glad you beat me to it.

Years ago, here in Pennsylvania, we had what were called "Blue Laws". Only certain stores were permitted to be open on Sunday and, even in those stores, certain classifications of items were not permitted to be sold. It was supposedly because Sunday was a day of worship. I always wondered, what about people for whom Sunday is NOT a day of worship?

I think we fall into the trap of thinking that the whole world is, or should be, Christian and, therefore, should follow Christian holidays. We are a country of diverse religions and beliefs and all of them should be respected.

I know it has always been a big tradition for Jewish people to have Chinese food and go to the movies on Christmas. I think Chinese restaurants were one of the only restaurants open back in the day (maybe because they were Buddhist?). Movie Theatres provide a great place for people to go. My friend doesn't get along with her inlaws (mother-in-law bad mouthed her to her own children) and often enjoys going to the movies while her husband takes the kids to her inlaws. Not everyone is Christian or has family to visit for the holidays!
