Anyone have difficulty sleeping? It's aging :(

Does anyone have trouble sleeping? They say along with sun damage and stress, not sleeping well is aging for your insides and skin Smiley Sad

I was never a good sleeper. Normally, I could fall asleep fine (and early) but I never sleep through the night. I usually wake up 3 hours after I fall asleep and have difficulty falling asleep. The worst though is what's happening lately. Say I'm relaxing on the couch watching TV, I'll be dead tired and go up to bed. As soon as my head hits the pillows, instantly my mind starts to race with mindless issues. Mostly a song that I wasn't even thinking of that day pops into my head and plays over and over and won't stop. Also, images and things that don't make sense pop into my head at 200 mph! I felt like I was going to have a panic attack or something last night because I wanted to fall asleep so bad. Finally I got out of bed, went downstairs, put the TV on and within 20 minutes I think I was asleep. I was able to turn the screen off so the light didn't keep me up, but I guess listening to the TV keeps my mind from racing perhaps. My husband likes to go to bed without the TV, which I know they say is best, but I wish he'd have some compassion and at least let me set the timer for a half an hour or so. I've tried Ambien, but it made me hallucinate, I do take 1/2 of the lowest dose of xanax sometimes and that helps, but I was told you shouldn't really use it for sleep because that's not it's intention and it doesn't keep you sleeping through the night. I've tried deep breathing, just thinking of something peaceful like a meadow, etc. but it doesn't work. Has anyone had this same issue and found something that helped and didn't make you feel awful in the morning? Also, in case someone asks, I never drink caffeine so that's not the problem. I fear this is going to age my skin!!!
