Re: Anyone else do a double cleanse?

I always double cleansed until I started Paulas Choice Optimal Results Hydrating Cleanser. I have tried many many cleansers including several of this brand. This one takes all my eye makeup off including Asian mascaras which can be more difficult. It takes them all off but doesn't leave a greasy feeling behind at all which is the problem I would normally have when using a cleanser that took off all eye makeup. Even in the summer it leaves my skin feeling perfectly clean and nothing greasy or filmy left behind.

I've been double or triple cleansing almost my whole life due to my oily skin. My skin is almost always clear.

I take off my eye makeup with Purity and then do two passes with Philosophy's Microdelivery wash to get off the oil and grime from the day. Then I mix both Purity and Microdelivery and use my Foreo Luna.

This Summer I've tried Garnier's Micellar water on the most humid days right after the Microdelivery wash initial cleanses and it makes a big difference.

Re: Anyone else do a double cleanse?

Looks like maybe I'm in the minority because I do not do a double cleanse at night, even if I'm wearing makeup. I like one product that does it all, remove eye makeup, regular makeup and cleanse my face and be done. I was using good old fashioned Ponds cold cream for a long time, but I'm looking for a cruelty free alternative that doesn't break the bank and I haven't found a great replacement yet. I actually had the best luck with just regular coconut oil. It didn't break me out and didn't dry out my skin which is already dry, especially in the winter it gets extremely dry. I think I will go back to that when my current cleansers are gone. And I just remove it with a regular washcloth. I might try those microfiber cloths though, those sound nice.

This sounds like a solvent cleaning followed by a surfactant, to cut through the beautyese. The solvents break down things that might challenge a soap-type cleanser, and the soap gets rid of the solvent residue and the rest of the surface soil. I'd think of it more as a two-step process as opposed to "double cleanse."

I think the Erno Laszlo regimen employed a similar technique, starting with working phelityl oil into your skin and following with a wash with the black soap and those hot water rinses. It's been about 40 years since I used it, so the products may have changed, but the solvent prep followed by a soap wash is a beauty standard.

I use the Erno Laszlo cleansing system day and night and have done so for a couple of years.

No problems w/my rosacea.  I also enjoy the EL Light Controlling Lotion after washing.

I also like one product that does it all, eye makeup included, which is one reason why I love Victoria Principal cleansers!

(With no interest in Clarisonic.)

But every now and then I will do an oil cleansing first with castor and whatever else I have.

Re: Anyone else do a double cleanse?

I double cleanse using my Mia. I think 2 minutes is a better time to get the stuff off. I put serums, moisturizers on and then use sun screen before make up so there is a serious barrier between my naked skin and the elements. The brush I use is, very soft so I don't irritate at all. I don't wear make up every day either. I use PTR pads and noticed that I was getting left over  make up on those pads at night; figured I better cleanse another minute.

I guess I do. I first use One Love Organics cleansing oil and then Juice Beauty Cleansing Milk.

suzyQ3 - I have been very interested in trying the One Love Organics brand but have not pulled the trigger yet.  What is your opinion of the brand?

I do a double cleanse, first with an oil cleanser, and then with a foaming type cleanser.  I can say my skin looks better since doing the double cleanse.  I do have a Foreo Luna but find I am not using it that much.

Re: Anyone else do a double cleanse?

@noodleann, you are correct that the Lazlo system was simply the industry standard when it came out.  Break down your makeup with oil and then wash your face with soap (cleanser).  Adrien Arpel, Janet Sartin, Marilyn Miglin and many of the other skin boutique skincare spas and brands used the same system back then. Even when I first started with Clinique back in '69 there had a cleansing oil which went with Skin Type III and IV routine to pre clean before moving onto the soap.  I still clean my face that way.  Doesn't matter what cleanser I'm going to use with or without the Clarisonic, my face cleanse begins with an oil cleanser such as DHC's Deep Cleansing Oil (or whatever oil cleanser I may be trying at a given time).  I've never done it any other way and since I'm pleased with the state of my complexion I don't plan to change anything at this stage of the game.

Re: Anyone else do a double cleanse?

I do at night. I wear spf50 and find it needs a deeper cleanse than when I don't wear it.
