Back in November, Jane and Courtney featured the CHI hot rollers in one of their shows.  I decided to order as a little "Merry Christmas to me" present.  At about $80, they cost more than any other set of hot rollers I've ever had.  I like how fast they heat up, but I'm not getting the curling effect that I'd hope to get like a couple of the models in the show had.  I'm wondering if it's just my technique and if I should send them back.  Right now, I'm thinking I'll return them.

I did a forum search and found CHI roller threads from 2014 and 2016!  That surprises me because I don't recall seeing them presented in the past, and Jane and Courtney acted like they were new.  

My hair is just below my shoulders in length.  I've tried to roll the ends vertically, but each time I use them I end up looking like I've stepped back into the 80s or 90s.  😂  Any tips to get a style for this century?  I have a Dyson Airwrap that can get this type of curl, but I was hoping for something to help me get ready faster.

I didn't buy the CHI hot rollers but did buy the Calista ionic hot rollers in December, I think. Nope, I didn't like them. The curl didn't hold, and I felt they are too hot to use and were clunky in my hair. I don't have that real thick hair, so they felt heavy on me. Hot rollers aren't for everyone and most people don't feel the curl lasts.

Thanks for sharing that about the Calista rollers @Effie54 . I saw those and thought they looked good too.  I don't have thick hair either, so that may be the issue.

I think one of the tricks with hot curlers is to let them completely cool down before doing anything.  And, for a less dated look, maybe just run your hands through instead of a brush.  It's the reason I get perms, although there's still specific styling techniques I use to get the look I want.  I used to wash, dry, and hot roll my hair every day when I was working before I started getting perms.

@1tuffcookie I ordered the Calista Ionic Rollers when I saw them presented... the long ones. QVC sent the wrong short rollers and of course they were sold out, so I purchased them using an online coupon directly from Calista.

I watched her video when it was available originally to see how to roll longer hair vertically (your length), to get the look as shown in your picture. She starts about 3/4 the way up the length of the hair you want to use in that curler, rolls the hair around the curler just like the Dyson Airwrap does, then finishes that strand by rolling it up onto her head. Place the large clip and repeat until all 12 rollers are used. 

I MUST use my styling products before using ANY hot roller, curling iron, Perfecter, waver, etc. or forget my efforts. My hair won't last. So that's a tip I got from watching videos.

Another tip would be if you are using the short rollers on your length hair, it might be too much length to wrap onto those smaller rollers. When that happens, the entire strand doesn't heat up enough to make a curl. There is just too much hair. You can try smaller strands. They also say allow to cool while putting on makeup, etc. which takes a good 10 minutes at least.

For your length hair, if you have the short rollers, you might want to return them while you still can if they still don't work to your satisfaction after reading all these comments. Then you can always check with the Calista website and purchase the long rollers, after watching youtube videos and her videos, anywhere you can watch how to use them for the best result if you still want hot rollers.

Oh! I use a heat-resistant glove on my right hand that is always holding the rollers. They DO get hot and my fingers really feel the heat without the glove! Ouch!

Hope you can figure it out. I like using different tools depending upon my mood and time because getting ready should be fun haha.
