Any Suggestions For Spilt Skin

Every winter, I don't know why, I get terrible splits in the skin of mostly my right thumb. I use moisturizer and when I get the splits I use this product called New Skin( a liquid bandage). Nothing seems to work and it can be very painful and sometimes bleeds. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
