An odd request re make up reviews:

If a poster is not opposed to adding their age into their review, I really believe it would help many of us in our decision making. I know it would help me, for sure. Skin, in one's 30's ....40's......50's.....to infinity and beyond, is so different in texture to oily/dry to 'lil fine lines' or deep 'oh dear look at this road map on my face' lines (for each decade, skin goes through such rapid changes) and all reviews/comments are helpful, but not knowing if a poster is 35 or 67 (example) creates a bit of a 'hmmmmm' in the mulling over 'Do I want to try a product or not'. Does this make sense to anyone? If we put an age in a thread review/comment, would it be helpful to anyone else or am I just weird? I really depend on previous users of a product, and find every comment is helpful.

This has come up before. Hey, you can't make people give their age if they don't want to. And really, it is about the type of skin you have, I think, rather than age. Many older women have oily skin and hormonal breakouts, and some younger women have dry skin. So, i don't know how much it would help anyway....

Re: An odd request re make up reviews:

I disagree. Age of skin makes huge difference. Every 5-10 years in the aging process, the skin loses some elasticity, plumpness. All sorts of changes. Changes that can be taken into account by the reader just by knowing the age range.

Someone who is 35 can say "this is awesome, it does not settle into fine lines or wrinkles."

Without the age (or age range) being known, that review could have a woman who is 65 jump in and say "oh, happy feet, I am getting it". Then be totally bummed to find out that yes, if you are in the 60-70 age range, it does settle.

With this new return policy, it is one more thing we could all put in a review to help people from having to return and pay the new extra fees.

On the clothing boards, women asked for reviewers to put more descriptive things, such as age, height, tall, short, etc. General information that the hosts never give us. Even knowing how tall the model is, or what size the models are wearing, is very helpful when watching the clothes shows. Sadly, not many hosts do such an in depth job (as they used to).

It is an idea. I am open to doing it.

You didn't offer up your age and I don't think many posters will either.

Re: An odd request re make up reviews:

Oh, haha, sorry. You are right. I was thinking of when I give a review or comment on a product.

I have no problem with my age. I am 60. Not sure why I am getting snarly comments.

Why is giving an age or AGE RANGE a bad request or thought?

Re: An odd request re make up reviews:

I am nice Smile. Have been here many, many years. This is the first time I got snarky comments. It is just an idea to help all of us since we have to get used to the new shipping.

I think they were just trying to do something regarding shipping to stop all the high shipping complaints. But they had to take something away to make it work for them. We were pretty spoiled (I believe) that they even refunded original shipping.

I have no problem whatsoever announcing my age. I don't understand people that do, but everyone has their own opinion.

On another topic, I just glanced over at my name and saw 2004, and only 538 posts? Did something reset? I have been here since the early '90's, on the very first board! Does anyone remember the very first Q board?

I don't think it's a bad request at all.

I often go to makeupalley.com where reviewers give their age, skin type, etc. IMO it's very helpful to know those things.

Re: An odd request re make up reviews:

Gabstoomuch, I think that people may think that their age is considered "personal information" here, and may not want to share it.

I don't personally think that an age range is a bad idea, or even if someone wants to say something like, I am "older now with more mature, dry, skin and I am seeing more wrinkles around my eyes"--something like that, if they don't want to identify their exact age or age range, for example, and they are looking for help for a skin care product.

Re: An odd request re make up reviews:

Gabs, I understand what you're saying. The reviews on Sephora.com and also Philosophy.com have an age option and it seems that most do leave their age which I do find helpful. From foundation to skincare to fragrance it is helpful to know if the reviewer is 20 or 60, gives a bit more perspective.
