Re: An Insult Or a Compliment?

Here in the mid SE I have never heard that phrase used.

Interesting, guess it could be ment either way.

Re: An Insult Or a Compliment?

I've heard someone use 'doll hair' in reference to what hair on a wig might look like and in that instance it's not a good thing because hair on a doll is fake-looking.

Re: An Insult Or a Compliment?

Never heard anyone say it in person, but a Q vendor of hair products uses it to mean cotton candy looking hair (another term he uses) negatively.

I have never heard the term "doll's hair" used to describe someone's hair or anything else.

I've lived Major Metro Area and now very rural. Never head the term ever and not by any presenter.

Re: An Insult Or a Compliment?

Post gave me a chuckle because I remembered what my dad used to say to my sister:  her hair looked as though she combed it with an egg beater.  She still can’t do her own hair at 70 !

Her twin became a hairdresser and would use that skill to torment her.

Re: An Insult Or a Compliment?

I'm fascinated by the responses. Thank you all!

This is so funny to me. I can just hear my mother saying it, and all the parents & grandparents of my friends as well.

I might make a point of using that comparison phrase in general conversation during the coming week.  I know family and neighbors will know exactly what I mean. I think everyone who grew up around here with baby dolls and Barbie dolls in the household will have heard that unfavorable comparison while growing up.

No I have never heard it. So where are you from that this term is common?

@x HedgeI have never heard that expression and I have never heard anyone compare hair to anything.
