Something important to note about using sunscreen and foundations (or anything with pigments)...makeup pigments weaken the strength of the sunscreen by causing the SPF to change at the molecular level. Any time you apply a tinted product, such as a tinted moisturizer, serum or primer then you will weaken the protection from any sunscreen you apply on top of it. FYI. So it's best to keep sunscreen away from foundations by using a non-tinted primer between them.

Some SPF brands claim that they can be used as a primer too. Farmacy SPF comes to mind as one of them. If a primer is not used with these sunscreens and a foundation is applied over top then it will the efficacy be lessened?

That's exactly what I do. I apply (chemical) sunscreen, let dry completely then apply my mineral foundation on top. I don't apply a primer in between.

I don't know the exact numbers of how much makeup pigments weaken SPF products. I use a high SPF of 70 to compensate for that effect. SPF 30 or higher is recommended so when you take that into consideration, weakening an SPF 70 would not take it down that far I don't think...but I can't verify that.

First I put the primer on then the foundation then the sunscreen.

I use Laura Geller primer. I've been using it since she introduced it. I like a specific one, clear. I use Dr. Denese sunscreen (my daughter can't use it, it breaks out her face so I don't think it's for everyone....very thick), I use various foundations.

The foundation depends on the weather. I have many different one's. In the Winter it's always IT foundation. That will cover everything.

I think it's funny when I meet people and age comes up. When I say I'm 72 they say, "You don't look it". Duh?

Well, it's because of the foundation. It makes my skin all the same color. I don't have many brown spots because I wear thick sunscreen and avoid the sun.

However, I really believe the foundation (making skin all the same color and covering boo boos) makes a lot of difference.

I have 5 granddaughters (ages 17, 15, 14, 12 and 9) They all have clear (same color) skin because the sun hasn't damaged it yet. THAT's what makes a person's skin look youthful (same color).

My moisturer has a spf of 15 and I don't see that as high enough. I useAge Shield Faces by Neutrogena. SPH 110. I'm not playing around. Period. My wrinkes at ALMOST 68 don't exist.
