@bbydol It practically brings me to tears!  I can't forget the innumerable tours through high end department stores with the security alert sounding in the background as soon as we'd entered, searching and all the while knowing there were no color foundations for us no matter how much buying power we had.  Or watching countless hours of QVC beauty presentations knowing full well that I'd been selectively excluded.  Other superstars could have, should have but chose not to-  other vendors could have- ( Mally tried, actually did make ONE foundation in deep, but soon went back to the standard tan)  Rihanna shamed them all.

Thank you for understanding.

@bbydol How many shades would you say were close to your skin color?Did the shade you selected work well when you got it home in your own lighting?I would imagine it was a tough decision if there were so many choices that could work.

Yes I know that all skin tones come in cool, warm and neutral.

Hey Whatnow, there were about 4 different shades that I could have gone with.  The mistake a lot of people make is trying to match themselves from the Fenty website.  You have to go in there because the colors that go on your skin may look off but as you brush it in the color morphs into your skin.  I have never seen makeup like this before.  I looked at so many of those YouTube videos and I could not believe that my skin was going to look like their skin.  I just didn't believe that with all of my hyperpigmentation and acne scars that my skin could look pretty......but it does...

Re: African American Women-40 Foundation Shades-- Rihanna's Fenty Cosmetics

CoG, I just have to share this with you.  Many, many years ago and I believe I was just a teenager, 16, 17 years of age, I went into  a big department store here in Phoenix, AZ.  I think the store was either Diamond's Department which is now Dillards's or The Broadway, which is now Macys.  I went over to the "CL----E" cosmetic counter.  I asked the clerk if she had some foundation I could look at.  I will never, ever forget her response.  She said "we don't carry anything that dark".   As I look back on that conversation 40 years ago, I truly believe it wasn't the fact that they did not have the color as much as it was how smugly she informed me that they did not cater to my complexion color.

I never forgot that incident and I never repeated it to any cosmetic company including the company who made the statement.  But I also never, ever purchased any makeup or skincare from that company either.

When I went in to Sephora at JC Penney's  it was like a big sorority in there with so many women being excited about their skin.  I am probably making too much of a big deal about foundation but I am so happy to be able to look at some pretty skin in the morning-mine- even if does come out of a bottle.  LOLOLOL

@bbydol  Congratulations on finding a company that makes products for you, for me, and for @CoG. I guess we all have that one experience we seldom share but will never forget. Mine was when I was in my early 20s and the lady at the Estee L counter told me I should go to the Fashion Fair counter because they would have what I needed. It wasn't what she said but the way she said it. I promptly went to another counter and asked to see a Store Manager. I reported that woman. The Manager apologized profusely and then asked if I had ever tried Elizabeth Arden. At that time they had an EA salon in their store. She escorted me to the salon and found her favorite mu artist whom she instructed to give me the works. I wore different formulations of EA for years until my skin changed somewhere in my 40s.

@bbydol

I seriously doubt Rhianna is out there mixing makeup colors, but it sounds like she was a driving force behind getting this brand going.

Bare Minerals has about 35 shades on their Shade Finder charts and the range is quite broad.

What I've seen with other companies isn't a lack of "fairness" but them simply choosing the 6 most popular shades, period.    Too many brands have much too much yellow in their makeup, so trust me, it's not just the darker gals who can't find the proper shade.

What I've also noticed is that many makeup companies aren't able to offer all the shades they have on QVC .... more than once I've gotten a FB reply from a Vendor telling me "they'd love to offer my requested product, but I need to tell QVC that this is what I want .... "    QVC gets to nix whatever they want in any makeup line.   It's probably more closely tied to sales than anything else, but I'm just speculating here.

Anyway, congrats to all who've found a new source for their foundation makeup!   Yay!

@bbydol and everyone else. ..

Wayne Goss has a recent utube  video on this new line. In case you haven't seen it.  He acknowledges being skeptical at first  then goes on to express his complete amazement  and pure joy with the products. You can hear it in his voice and see it on his face! He is truly bowled over, which is always good to know. He speaks about several  items.

The magnetic  components  are pretty neat too. I like the honeycomb configuration when stored. Very convenient  and a good look too.

This may be one of the few times a celebrity has attached her name to a successful makeup line. Most of the time we roll our eyes and say "what, another???..." and impressions are often poor. I love he buzz with this new launch and am even more delighted so many of you are finding great success color matching your foundation  shades plus the correct undertones!  This is just fabulous!

If the big cosmetic companies with limited foundation  choices aren't head smacking themselves by now,well they should be.  Wring your hands for failing to listen to the pleas of your want to be customers. Tsk Tsk.

Kudos to Rihanna! She has addressed a reality, not a small niche market. Obvious and simplisticly brillant  Wishing  her and the new Fenty Cosmetics line continued success and tremendous  satisfaction and happiness to her customers as well ♡♡♡
