Re: Adult breakouts --- I could use your recommendations!

Murad works for me. I got started with Murad when they had some large samples if you bought a book from them. The book was cheap, so it was a deal. Some nice person didn't have acne and sent me hers. So I had two sets. I have strayed and I go right back. I've bought a lot of brands and this is the best.

You can start with their acne set for not too much money and see if it works for you. I do like the time release cleanser better than the acne cleanser that comes in the kit though.

I'm 58 and still have problems. Life is not fair sometimes.

I haven't had a breakout since I had my hysterectomy so it must be hormone related. I use green tea bar soap to cleanse & it keeps blackheads at bay. I never had acne but did get breakouts every month. No one in my family has ever had an acne problem.

Thank you for your suggestions! I went through menopause like 12 years ago, so I don't think it could still be hormonal?? But I really don't know. It is disgusting though that you get to be this old and still tormented with this type of skin problem. Blessings, all!

Re: Adult breakouts --- I could use your recommendations!

I have very fair, sensitive skin with a ton of allergies and "issues". I have found that when I get those "bumps" that Johnson & Johnson Clean & Clear works well. I also use the Clarisonic on that area for a longer time. It seems to clear it up in half the time.

I'm still not certain what causes these things. I blame it on a hormone imbalance rather than an allergic reaction to something. Stress always enters into the equation for me. I also noticed that if I don't take the proper time to apply my serums, moisturizers, etc. that my chin and forehead will have the occasional reaction.

Hope this helps you.

I responded earlier from my cell phone, but feel I need to encourage you again to look at diet. Do you consume cow milk products? Try omitting dairy for at least a month.Someone mentioned probiotics. I always tend to forget/neglect that, but it's a great idea.

Topical ointments and treatments can provide relief and quicken the clearing of the symptoms, but you want to find out the cause.

Since your problem is so localized, this may not apply, but for my family, I stopped using fabric softeners as a solution to bumpy and itchy skin. We don't need them, and they only add chemicals to our clothing (much is then inhaled or absorbed through the skin) and to our water systems. On that same contact-type issue, I once developed a problem on my neck and chin that I tracked down to a scarf I had begun wearing in the fall. It had animal hair in it, and for some reason that was causing my skin to flare up.

Whether it is contact-related or dietary, if possible try to find out the cause so you won't have to keep treating the symptoms. Take care and I hope you figure it out. - Bird

AngelPuppy, I was well past menopause too when I was still getting the painful chin zits. I had used benzoyl peroxide products (mostly ProActiv) with minimal results for about 9 years. I had also been to different derms and had had several courses of oral antibiotics (minocyclen). I was loathe to get on it again as it had messed up my immune system but I made an another appt. and was waiting for it when I came upon the Buzz on Acne conversation here on this board.

I ordered out of curiosity not really believing it. My order came quick and I was using it while still waiting for that doctor appt. My chin cleared up so fast I cancelled the appt.! That was back in 2009 when I was 60. I am still using BOA twice a day and I get it on auto delivery. I haven't had another (serious) break-out since then. It's so easy and no other acne products are used with it. Like any other product, some can use it and some can't, but it's been my small personal miracle. {#emotions_dlg.thumbup1}

Such wonderful and lovely responses! You are all the best. Thank you so much for commiserating with me. I know with this kind of thing there are so many variables. Since having very reactive skin for as long as I can remember, I have eliminated over time so many things which people with normal skin give absolutely no thought to. I am sure there are things in my diet, in the environment, etc. which are definitely not my friends, but getting to the bottom of it all seems rather a huge undertaking! I will certainly look into and further research many of the things and ideas which you have taken the time to list. Meanwhile, I have limited hope that the derm. will do much for me. I haven't had the greatest success in the past with this avenue even though I have gone to the limited number that are available to me. I'm so appreciative of everyone's replies!

What are you eating? I have gone through something similar and for me I discovered that anything with coconut, coconut oil etc and too much dairy will cause it. When I eliminated both from my diet my skin totally cleared up. If, I go back to eating those things, the cystic type acne begins. My doctor told me that I have developed some food sensitivities and the acne is how my body is reacting to them rather than getting hives. I have always had clear acne free skin until this occurred but since I discovered what was causing it, everything has cleared up and remained that way. Look at what your eating, drinking, in addition to what you put in your tea or coffee. Some of the dairy free creamers i.e. Coffeemate etc can cause reactions too.

Actually, the hormone changes from menopause can cause acne. It's the male hormones that can cause acne and since after we go through menopause our estrogen levels drop, the progesterone and testosterone levels become more dominant. That's why we also get thinning hair and chin/mustache hairs.

I so understand your frustration. I had to wait until I was 50 to stop breaking out on my face. I think back on my life and there were usually pimples that had to be hidden, it is a shame I had to wait so long to feel confident about my appearance. I would suggest you google the benefits of organic apple cider vinegar, that might help. Are you using a new product, like toothpaste, etc. Always remember that you think it looks much worse than it actually is. Drink plenty of water also. You also might want to try visualization it is best to do this when you are going to bed, just lay down and visualize the skin of you dreams, this technique has been proven to help with many issues, even weight loss.
