I’ve had to really work on my brows now whereas before I never colored them in because I had them.
I don’t line my bottom lashes anymore because it makes my eyes look smaller.
I’ve switched to a more moisturizing foundation now I’m older but I still love to play with color!

@momoftwo2007wrote:Actually, it is the opposite for me. When I was in my 20s and 30s, I wear very light makeup. But now in my 40s, I have to go heavier on my makeup because of my skin issues (acne and discoloration) that started in my 40s.
@momoftwo2007 Sometimes wearing heavier makeup draws attention to the situation. It can also not allow your skin to breathe or add oils and/or irritants to make it worse. Sometimes a good concealer strategically placed instead of full coverage foundation can do wonders...and not damage your skin in any way....look for one that’s hypoalllergenic and possiblely oil free so it doesn’t clog pores.

@GenXmuse I don’t line bottom lashes anymore except for dressing up (rarely) & then only w/ a fine liner brush and taupe shadow. Any thing you put below the eye draws attention downward and also draws attention to any darkness we usually fight w/ concealer.

While we're talking about makeup on older women, I'm just going to put this out there. PLEASE, even if you are tempted. DON'T get tattooed eyeliner. A relative has it. She's convinced it looks good. Believe me, it doesn't.

I think people at any age should wear what they like and what they think looks good on them. Anyone who doesn't like it is free to do what they want on their own head

@Shanus....there is a vast difference between how I looked in my forties and fifties and now about to turn 65. When I was in my forties, I looked almost identical to when I was in my twenties and I had a profile with absolutely no sagging and not a line on my face. During my 50's, I did start noticing that my jawline was not as tight but no real wrinkles of any kind. Now at almost 65, I see faint circles under my eyes and a few small lines with a 10 power magnification mirror. I attribute all of it to genetics. I have no crows feet and have never used an eye cream for more than a week because I am allergic to them.
I never wore more than light foundation, blush, lipstick and eye liner with mascara. I am blonde and fair, so too much makeup always took away from my appearance rather than adding to it.
Maybe that is why I don't believe in using someone's age to determine the proper makeup routine. Someone in their 60's may be less wrinkled than someone in their 40's. Age isn't everything in how I would personally advise anyone on how to do their makeup. And yes, I have unwrinkled eye lids so I can if I wanted to wear sparkly eye shadow. I just cannot because of allergies....

I definitely have but it's due to my skin becoming SO much drier as well as my eye not thinking things look the same, lol.
SKIN is #1. Complexion is first and foremost. My goal is to not need foundation and I'm almost there. I still do a smokey eye but the shades I use are either brownish plums or neutrals. There is no grey, no smoke, blue, no red, no out there shades at all. Black liner is only for tight lining. Mascara is one coat top and maybe on the bottom. Lining has changed.
Blush is cream and just barely patted on.
Powder is rarely used.
Lipstick is more gloss as my lips have shifted in shape. Now they're no longer even all around. I understand why women get them plumped.
It's not about the age; it's about how my skin and features look. Since that changes, my makeup will most likely change as well going forward.

I am 62 and retired... I went from someone who NEVER went without foundation, and makeup etc every day.... to now wearing no makeup at all when home( most of the time) to only wearing a little bit if I go out of the house shopping etc. I Rarely wear any foundation... just my skin care products.. sunscreen and then a bit of lip and blush... do not even put on mascara much anymore.... and I still get compliments from people about my no makeup face and my skin. It always surprises me!
It is so freeing not to feel like I have to wear a mask of makeup that I use to put on when younger. It is just a mind change... reality shift..... from always wearing makeup and being use to that look..... to no makeup at all or very very little and feeling confident

Most of us on here have a love of makeup otherwise we would not be here. However, there comes a time in life to tone down the shades and go lighter. I am 68. In my younger years, I rarely wore earth tone eyeshadows but now I think I look better in those shades. Learned a tip on YouTube when applying eyeshadow to hold the brush further back on the handle. That way not too much color is deposited. Never knew that before. Don't wear black liner anymore. As far as foundation, I don't have anything to cover on my face but I still prefer a medium coverage. I just feel that it gives me some color. I still like a little sparkle to my makeup so I keep it subtle. Not a fan of nude lips and never have been so I do wear brighter colors but not as dark as I used to. One thing that I forgot to mention is that I wear more SPF now than I used to. During the years that I was employed, I only wore sunscreen to the beach. I worked in a medical facility with no windows and never thought that I was being exposed to damaging sunlight. Once I retired I realized that it is a necessity just like the rest of our skincare regimen. I don't go a day without it now.

@dexwrote:@Shanus@What lipstick do you use?I like a pink over brown undertone but can’t seem to find that.
Hi @dex. I use Lancôme The New Pink...a slight shimmer (can’t really tell) like you had applied a little gloss, but the lip color is full coverage, not a balm or similar formulas.
I’ve used that lipstick shade & it is quite flattering.
To answer your question, OP — I am a less is more person when it comes to applying makeup. I don’t overdo the blush or highlighter on my cheeks. I also stopped lining the entire eye with liner & do a quarter of the lower lash on the outer corner with liner & the upper lid now.
I did at one time add reddish highlights to my hair & had to alter my facial makeup because of those highlights.
