@Shanus - Thank you SO MUCH for telling me (and others) your story! First, you never know who will read it and how it will touch her life; I'm sure it will make a difference! I just showed DD and she said "Wow, she was so lucky!" I'd think of it more like "blessed," but you obviously had the talent to make a difference in so many lives! What a wonderful opportunity you've had and I can't believe you actually know Bobbi Brown. You took what you had and kept building on it, and you built a successful beauty and jewelry (DD's second love) business. And to have your beautiful granddaughters close to your home is the icing on the cake!

I always try to make a difference in someone's life each day. Just think of how many you helped. There is nothing so important as making someone feel better about herself, and you did that many times over.

I wish I'd known about Bobbi Brown much sooner. I didn't wear her makeup until I finally decided to try it about 15 years ago. I never had a makeover, but I wish I'd had. I bought a shimmer brick palette, then got matched to the stick foundation. I've never liked heavy foundation, but I liked the way this looked. Then I bought another shimmer brick palette. They didn't carry the line in any stores near us at the time, so I was thrilled when it came into two of our department stores. I tried the lipstick (liked it), but never tried the blush. I think what changed my mind was I got a summer eyeshadow palette one year without trying it. All of the shadows looked silvery on me, so I gave it to DD! I should have taken the time to have a Bobbi Brown makeover, but by that time we had a Blue Mercury open near us and Laura Mercier was turning my head! LOL!

Shortly after that I was cleaning with the TV on while I was alone one Saturday. DD was spending the weekend with a friend and her family, and DH and DS were on a Boy Scout camping trip. I sat down on the ottoman in front of the TV and started flipping through the channels. I landed on Laura Geller selling Blush & Brighten in Pink Grapefruit. I had to get that. Then I saw Mally selling her eyeliners. I wanted them too. I'd never heard of either one of them! But I had ordered Birkenstocks from QVC once. That was the beginning of a long love affair with both of their lines (and with QVC in general), until they were sold to other owners. I still use a lot of Laura's Baked products; I'm on and off with Mally.

BTW - DD's "small" makeup group on Facebook now has 78 members! She is hoping to do a live question and answer session soon! Smiley Wink

You've had the perfect career. Again, thank you so much for sharing your story. (((HUGS)))

@beach-mom  Thanks for the compliments.  Happy you enjoyed reading it. Sorry it was sooooo long. I wear all lines of makeup now and use others, as well when doing makeup. I think Estée Lauder is really not doing the BB name any favors. Bobbi was never about sparkle and bright colors in the line today.

@MW in Iowa   Of course, she can do her own makeup...does it every day. If the marriage goes on as planned, she'll most likely be doing it herself. It's not as much the actual makeup being any different as the "being pampered" factor.

I disagree. I had my make-up done for my own wedding and when I was in my sister-in-law''s wedding.  It was more than being pampered, I looked so much better than I could ever do myself.

My youngest DD wants to be an esthetician when ( and if -but that's another story!) graduates from high school.  She loves make up and would love to do as a profession along with other things she would learn in esthetician school like mircoblading.

why is there a wedding planned this year anyway?  I am certain...... that this virus is going to be ongoing for months and months. Anyone thinking it will blow over in a few weeks is dreaming. Easy decision----- big fat NO!

@wagirl  Sometimes weddings need to be planned a year or more in advance. Our niece is scheduled for August. This was planned over a year ago. They have been making payments on the venue all this time. Not sure what will happen.

Shanus i get what you mean about being pampered, that hopefully one time in your lifetime , i guess not knowing the person i just meant she would happy if everything else can go as planned, the makeup wasn't important in the big scheme of things. Not trying to minimize what is important to people on the big day.

@wagirl   Thinking they're planning as if "who knows what will happen. Let's get married NOW". There was a sense of fear.

@ninjawife   There's so much more involved now with an esthetician's license. That's just the basics. Microblading, lasers, certain strong acid peels require continuing education and/or extra accreditation. There are so many new frontiers since I studied and received my license.

***Makeup for the bride feeling just pampered is if she "ties my hands" to her every day look + a bit more. My preference and training is to prep makeup for photography while still looking natural. Every day makeup will look faded out, too pale and features lost when photographed.

@Shanus I loved reading your story!  If you lived close to me and in better times I would love to have you do makeup for me.

I've also always enjoyed the arts and have been a life long crafter.   I never had the drive to do a lot with it until my kids grew up and left home. I was mostly a stay at home mom but once they did I opened my own little Etsy business which keeps me sane.

BTW, my son has a degree in landscape architecture too and loves the varied & interesting jobs that he works on.  It's mostly urban design, renovation and public places.

Everything seems to be changing by the day. I am not a pessimist by any means but I think it's going to be a good 3 months before we see the least bit of normalcy.
