Wow that was early, but the bagels and other eats were great! There were several instructors billed as “Sephora Pros”. We each had a station w/ sample products and brushes and learned bronzers and contouring...placement, colors and the difference between them.
Other fair ladies, great find for contouring....Kevin Aucoin Nordstrom & Sephora) in Light or Medium. It’s a grayish taupe which we learned is the color of a shadow when cast by light shining above your head. That’s their technique for also finding perfect placement for contour and highlight.
So, grayish tones are for contouring and bronzers are cool or warm brownish/gold/red shades (matte) depending on skin tone. These are placed above the contour and never used as a contour shade...only where the sun would hit on the high points of the face (duh! I knew most of this). Next is blush above and/or blended w/ bronzer and highlight above that. My face is tiny and definitely not enough room for all those steps up the sides of my cheeks.
Stupid me raised my hand to ask that above question and was called to the high stool in front of the class, minimal makeup removed and I was shown where to place these products. Never, would I wear all those unblended, stripes of color. However all was not lost since I did find my perfect contour shade...if I ever want to contour.

Sounds like it was well worth getting up for the class at 7 AM. I bet it was beneficial to get "hands on" experience.
Thank you for sharing. I never heard of the classes.

@drizzellla Classes are for makeup artists only and lessons/subjects vary. We pay a small fee and receive a small bag of samples...and bagels!!!

Agree with OP that contouring is just not for me. Just "too too".

@Peaches McPhee An interesting point was brought up about contouring. Where the contour is placed, in the hollows of cheeks, is also where we lose volume and tend to look gaunt. As we age, contouring can work against us. If you ever decide to get fillers for volume, that’s the area the doc goes for first.

OHHH!
Thanks for clarifying that. Is it for Sephora makeup artists only? Well, Sounds like an excellent idea.

I contour my jawline. The little saggy bit by my mouth that connects under my chin bugs the heck out of me. One moment I think it's gone--all my hard work finally got rid of it.Then I see myself at a different angle with different lighting. womp womp There it still is.
I use a greyish contour too. It's the middle tone in a Physician's Formula trio I got a while back. It does look like a shadow. I don't contour anywhere else because the last thing I need on my face is more hollowing or shadow.
Have heard good things about the Aucoin contour (mainly for contouring paleish people) for quite a while from lots of different sources, @Shanus. Cool to see that affirmation again. I need to check it out.
