6oz. bottles of WEN

I have a bottle of fig I was going to empty into the 16oz. bottle so I could use the pump in a 8oz. bottle of Philosophy Barely Glazed lotion since I can't get the lotion out of the bottle. I have wrestled with the pump for at least 10 minutes trying to get the pump to pop up and not having any luck at all. Is there a trick to it?
