613 Styling cream possibly drying? Alternative?

Been using Wen for 3 years and my hair has been better than ever in my life. My hair is very dry. I've always used cc as a leave in, then followed with two pumps of Moroccan oil.

After listening to Chas talk about protecting hair from sun and heat I started using 613 styling cream with a drop of one of his oils mixed in. My hair is getting dryer and dryer. I've done the mask, overnight oils, rtm, played with different cleansing cream mixes, cleansed more, cleansed less, air drying instead of blow drying, styling serum, and finally a light bulb went off... could it be the styling cream?

That and changing to wen oil versus Moroccan oil have been only changes.

Anyone had this experience? If so is it the 613 or all the styling creams? I've been using 613 or seasonal or combo of both as leave in. I have most CCs except lavender.

Hopefully someone else can confirm (or say I misheard Smiley Happy but it seems like one of the last few times Chaz was on the Q, he said Moroccan oil "dries the sh it out of hair" did anyone else hear this? I only heard him mention it once.

The 613 styling creme has amino acids in it, which can be drying for some. You may have better luck with one of the regular styling cremes. The seasonals and the 613 cc also has amino acids. They could also be drying your hair out. Maybe try using the regular cc's and styling cremes for awhile to see if the moisture comes back to your hair.

I think I heard Chaz say something about the AA model Katia. He said that her hair was dried out before because she was using some type of oil. I am thinking it was Moroccan oil.

Hillary, thanks for clarifying about the amino acids in the 613 SC-- I was never sure if they were only in 613 CC, or in the 613 styling products as well.

Yes, all of the 613 products have amino acids in them, including the mousse and RTM. The seasonals and bamboo green tea also have amino acids. The BGT RTM and also the newer seasonal rtm's like spring orange blossom and summer honey peach also have amino acids in them.

Hillary thanks. I have been using the seasonal and 613 thinking they were thicker and therefore more moisturizing. I'm going to go all TT and Fig for a bit.

Knew you guys would have some ideas! Thanks, Karen

Re: 613 Styling cream possibly drying? Alternative?

I did hear Chaz say that the amino acids in his products should not dry out the hair or cause it to break. However, there seems to be something going on because the 613 really dries my hair out at times. I'm not really sure why. I just chalk it up to what my hair needs. Sometimes, the amino acids are great for my hair when my hair needs it. At other times, my hair gets very dry. I'm not sure why. I have heard others mention that 613, seasonals, etc. can be drying. I have had better luck lately with the seasonals and BGT, but I only use them as a second cleanse only. I have also stopped using 613 altogether.

Yup he did. That's why I stopped using it and used one of his oils instead. I put a couple drops of Moroccan oil on back of one hand and wen oil on the other. The Moroccan oil hand was dry in 3 minutes, wen hand stayed soft and moist for long time.

I think it is just about finding a balance for your hair. My hair seems to love moisture with a small amount of amino acids/protein. I get the best results using TT for my first cleanse followed by Sam, fig, or lavender. I also use a seasonal or BGT as a second cleanse periodically to give my hair a dose of amino acids. A small amount of protein does add strength to my hair. I think when I overdo the amino acids is when it dries out my hair. Just keep experimenting until you figure out what your hair likes. Good luck!!
