hello everyone. one thing I have learned over the last few days is that the old gray mare ain't what she used to be when it comes to gardening{#emotions_dlg.rolleyes}. it is hard work and I just don't have the energy or stamina that I used to have. I guess that's to be expected at 63 but I am learning to divide my work into smaller pieces and take breaks as often as I need to.

I know some of you ( or your spouses) are going through some tough times right now with health issues and I am thinking of you and sending prayers daily.

to all, have a peaceful evening.

Re: "the old gray mare ain't what she used to be "

That's for sure! I'm also 63, and have finally accepted the fact that no amount of face masks or hair conditioners will make my KNEES younger. I'm going to have to have surgery. Not real thrilled about that. {#emotions_dlg.mellow}

ah yes, rina33. the knees. whatever I'm doing, I have to make adjustments to accommodate my knees. I've had one TKR and will probably need the "good knee" done at some point in the future. I have learned to do some things in ways that avoid kneeling. it's just too painful. things like cleaning the bath tub, the floors, and even gardening. I have a small chair/stool that I use so I won't have to get on my knees. knee pain is no fun!

Mochahoney - The most difficult part is having difficulty reading. This came on rather sudden for me. The dr. is in his office every other week. It's a real pain because I need a referral to see any specialists. I hope your friend will be okay.

Spammom - If I buy the grape tomato plant do I replant in a clay pot? I have never grown any vegetables before. I know, tomato is a fruit but it's a veg. to me! ha!

Good Morning to all you ladies. I have been on the search for sun all week. I hope today is the day. Enjoy your day.

KatCat1, I had my very first garden last summer and was thrilled to eat vegetables from my own back yard. the taste is unbelievably so much better than from the grocery store. I grew both cherry tomatoes and regular tomatoes and just wanted to add that you need to stake them or put a 'cage' around them for support.

Mochahoney- You are exactly right about staking the tomatoes. DH told me to remind Kat to do so, but, my mind isn't working as it should, and I forgot. Kat, you can buy a stake like Mochahoney's picture shows. They sell them at all garden centers. Sometimes, they are called "cages". Sometimes, DH just takes a dial rod and sticks it in the soil, and ties the tomato plant to it. It does well too. Just as long as they are staked. I can't wait till you get your first red ones!!

Re: 60's ladies and all ages come and chat for May....

Good evening ladies. Hope everyone had a great Saturday.

We didn't do too much; stayed home most of the day. It rained off and on- no storms, just steady rainfall. Our grass and flowers are looking so much better. We have experienced nice temps the last several days but by Monday, we're going back to the low 90's.

The gout in my right foot has flared up again to the point my foot is swollen twice it's size , is very painful, and I can not get any shoe on. Also, it's almost impossible to put any weight on the foot, so walking is out of the question. Using a cane, I just try to hobble around the best I can. We were supposed to meet friends for dinner, but had to cancel since I can't walk, and even if I could, I'm sure the restaurant would not appreciate me showing up barefoot! Hopefully, this will get better in a few days.

Hello to all my friends, and sending good thoughts and prayers to those of you who are going through especially hard times right now. Shorelady: special good wishes to you and your DH. Helen: hope your DH is continuing to improve daily. Puddles: Hope you are improving every day also.

BBL.

Re: 60's ladies and all ages come and chat for May....

GOOD SATURDAY EVENING EVERYONE!

I hope you all had a good day enjoying whatever plans and have now settled in for a restful and peaceful evening. It's still very warm here in San Diego (high 80's), but cooler than it was earlier in the week. I got my hair cut this morning; I've cancelled appointments twice, so I really needed it and feel (and look) so much betterSmile. DH is "house happy" from pretty much sitting around since his surgery, so we decided to take a drive to La Jolla (a beautiful town nearby) and have a late lunch at one of our favorite places by the water. We took our time and all in all, it was a great afternoon. He's now relaxing in his chair, so thought I'd take a minute or two to check in on my laptop.

CINDY, I was getting worried about you since it seems like a couple days since you posted. I'm sorry to hear you've been suffering with your foot; it sounds very painful. Hopefully, you can just take it easy the next few days and it will get better. I'll be thinking of you.....Max sends hugs too!

SPAMMOM, I'm sorry your Dr. appointment didn't go as we'd hoped. I'm hopeful, though since you mentioned your DH and doctor thought they saw some healing. Let's pray they're right. Oh, and I like the name "Pillow Talk" for us insomniacs. You're right. It was a movie; I think with Doris Day. Speaking of pillows....would it help for keeping your leg elevated to just stack some pillows while you lay on the bed or couch? It sounds better than trying to get up from the floor, Yikes! Hope you had a good day with your babies and that your DH is home safe.....

LOVES, so good to hear from you. And, little Lexi a social butterfly? Sounds like she wants to be like her Grandma "Kay"....how cute is that!! On a serious note, I'm glad to hear your DH's mother is fine now after taking a fall. I know how scary it is; my mother had a couple bad falls before she died. Have a great week at school....it won't be long before Summer break!!

KAT, I'll be thinking of you and hoping the surgery will take care of your eye problems. If you're anything like me, it's the waiting that's most difficult. Mainly, because it just gives us that much more time to worry. Let us know how it goes with your tomatoes too. I picked up a beautiful pot of some at Lowe's the other day. It will be the first time for me with growing them, and I got some great pointers on here today. For one, I think I need a bigger pot, as the plant is pretty big. Take care, Kat, and have a great week.....

SHORELADY, constant prayers for you and your DH. Hopefully, you'll get some answers and direction next week at your doctor appointment. While I'm sure you missed having your DH with you, I hope you had a nice time at your DGD's communion. H2be, I hope you had a good day and are feeling better. Please know I'm sending prayers and keeping the best of thoughts for you, as well. MOCHAHONEY, count me in as one more person here with bad knees. Sounds like you're keeping busy, though, with planting and getting your raised bed finished. Can't wait to see a picture when you're through.

Well, once again, looks like I've written a book. Sorry....but I still want to be sure and send a wave to PUDDLES, so glad you're getting stronger and better each day, rina33...welcome and come back soon, BOBBISUE, hope you are feeling better, RetRN and all our wonderful friends!

I'll be back as soon as I can.....have a blessed Sunday everyone! Helen

Re: 60's ladies and all ages come and chat for May....

I may be joining the "Pillow Talk" gang! Up way early and wide awake!

Thank you for the shout-out, Helen! Bring on summer! Good to hear that you two had a nice day at La Jolla!

Waving "hi" to puddles! SPAMMOM it is hopeful news to hear that the doctor saw some healing in your knee. I am going to think positive thoughts for you...

Re: 60's ladies and all ages come and chat for May....

Hello ladies....I woke up today with breathing problems. Finally got myself better with my nebulizer and inhalers.

I ordered the Authentic Gourmet croissants from the Q when they were the TSV around Easter time. Just fixed some and they are so good. I hope you try them.

Cindy, I hope your foot gets better. Sorry you are in pain.

Spammom, Helen had a good idea with the pillows. Lay on the sofa and prop your foot and leg up on several pillows. I hope your knee and leg heal soon.

Kat, I hope your eye gets better soon.

Mochahoney, I wish I had the air to make a tomato garden. We had gardens when my DH was alive and the vegetables were great. He grew large wonderful tomatos.

Shorelady, thinking of you. Prayers continue.

I wish you all a blessed day.

Re: 60's ladies and all ages come and chat for May....

hello everyone. we've had a pretty busy weekend. my beautiful niece got married yesterday evening followed by a reception at her new father-in-law's house. as I told my hubby when we left the reception, now we know how "the other half" lives. oh my goodness, that was a beautiful place. gorgeous house & gardens and acres & acres of land with horses. oh well, back to reality {#emotions_dlg.rolleyes}.

we've been working really hard to get the raised bed built and we finished just a few minutes ago. I got a few things planted. 2 tomato plants, strawberries, yellow squash and cucumbers. this evening I'll stake the tomatoes and put in a couple of rows of carrots and lettuce. I know it's a little late for lettuce ( and probably the carrots too) but I planted lettuce just a little earlier than this last year and they did great. the garden is situated where it will get dappled light until the afternoon, then will have full sunlight. hope that will work.
