Re: “2023”~Everyone, Please Join Us!

Back from Thanksgiving feast. It was good to see everyone. Lots of food. My DIL brought homemade sourdough bread which was delicious!

My pie was a big hit. The other Grandmother made cupcakes with a turkey made out of candy corn for the tail feathers, candy eyes & a red M&M for the wattle. Very creative!

We all took home mini meals. Most of my stuffing was eaten & I got a small Tupperware container to take home.

It was great seeing the grandkids. Toddler EP was cute saying I done after sampling some of the food.

There was even a birthday cake for my youngest who turned 30 a few days ago!

Hope everyone had a wonderful day!

I'm home also from my day with DD.  We had a great meal at a Chinese restaurant we like in Oakland.  Then we had to stop off at the store because she wanted to make homemade scones to take to where she is going tomorrow.  Then back to her house and we made the scones and chatted and had a wonderful afternoon.

Have any of you ever had Marionberry pie?  Oh my word.  It is so good - especially when heated up just a little bit.  Think this is now my favorite pie.  The berrys are dark like a blackberry but kind of reddish too.  The pie is just a tad tart - but not like a cherry pie tart - and has a bit of sweetness to it.  It's heaven on a plate ladies, let me tell you.  Had never had it before and DD and I saw it at the store and decided we needed tot ry it.  Since she's going out of town, I brought home most of it.  Fine by me!

It was such a nice day and now I'm home watching a bit of football and waiting for the Niner game to start.  Have a good evening!

Edited to add:  Marionberry - had to look it up as I hadn't heard of it.  It's a type of blackberry grown in Oregon.  "It has a sweet and tart taste" and thats exactly right!

Re: “2023”~Everyone, Please Join Us!

hi friends. from what I've read here it sounds like everyone had a great Thanksgiving. we did too. everything turned out so delicious. in fact, I think the turkey breast and dressing were the best I've ever made. who knows why? the Thanksgiving fairies were with me, I guess. I think making everything in stages helped because it wasn't as tiring.

when DD & family were leaving I sent them home with lots of leftovers. they had a small turkey breast they were planning to cook for supper (their Thanksgiving, part two) so they went home with a pan of dressing, cornbread, purple hull peas, half a sweet potato pie and half a pecan pie.  we ate around 2pm, so about 7 o'clock I decided I wanted a turkey sandwich for supper. when I looked in the fridge there was no turkey! I had unintentionally sent our leftover turkey home with DD. since I knew she had a turkey breast they were cooking I called her and told her about my mistake, which she hadn't even noticed. she just laughed and said DSIL would bring it back. they only live about 10 minutes away, so by 7:30 I had my turkey sandwich.

man....that turkey sandwich was so good Smiley Happy

DSIL is keeping Ezra today, so we get a 4 day weekend. DH is planning to go hunting tomorrow and I'm planning to get some rest and I'll probably do a little Black Friday online shopping.

BBL, y'all.

Re: “2023”~Everyone, Please Join Us!

Good afternoon.  I decorated my tree this moring.  Had leftover Chinese food for lunch and am now relaxing.  My goal this year was whatever ornaments didn't make it on the tree would be tossed or donated.  Also went through a lot of my around-the-house decorations and will be donating quite a bit of those too.  Want to simplify my holiday decorations.  Had way too much and decorating became a chore and not something enjoyable.  Some of the ornaments that didn't make it on the tree I did keep because I use them for all those little blank spots and also in case some get broken.  But a lot are now gone.  When I start putting all this away, think I should be able to combine 2 of the large decorating tubs that I have into 1, which would be nice.  Don't want to do that though until I put things away and see what I need for storage.  Dread going to the donation center at this time of year because it's so ridiculously crowded so will wait and try and go during the week.

Hope everyone is enjoying their day.

Re: “2023”~Everyone, Please Join Us!

the fall wreath has been taken down and the lighted Christmas wreath is on the front door. a smaller wreath without lights is now on the door coming in from the garage. we put up the Christmas tree but it's not decorated. we had Thanksgiving leftovers for supper, so no cooking and easy cleanup. yay!

DH is driving north to hunt tomorrow and will be leaving before daylight. I'll probably be a slug and just relax and read. a little housework might have to happen, but we'll see. I'd rather read.

@JudyL, I've never heard of a marionberry.  I like tart as long as it's not too tart. a little sweet helps. I purged Christmas tree decorations last year and will probably do a little more as I decorate the tree.

@viva923, your grandchildren are lucky to have y'all there to help. I hope your plans with your son worked out even though they were delayed.

@JustJazzmom, I'll bet everything you took was a hit, especially that bourbon chocolate pie. I've decided I need to learn to make my own pie crusts. every time I've tried has been a big fail. the pies I made were good, but the crust was not tender at all. I always use the Pillsbury crusts in the red box.

@SleeplessinSD, I hope your Thanksgiving has been a good one with your family.

I did a little Black Friday shopping. Community Coffee is having a 35% off sale. if you're looking for well made, old fashioned crisp cotton sheets or very nice towels, Red Land Cotton is having a 30% off sale. they grow the cotton in Alabama and manufacture everything in the US.

time for a small piece of sweet potato pie.

sending blessings to all.

here's a north Mississippi sunset.

have a peaceful evening, y'all.

Re: “2023”~Everyone, Please Join Us!

Our family gathering went well on Thursday. Since my BIL only stayed one night, we were able to decorate our house for Christmas today. Will do the outside greenery on Monday.
