Today I saw a video by the foundation lady showing the 13 dot foundation technique by Wayne Goss. Wayne got the idea from Dr. Sam Bunting 13 dot technique for skincare.

three dots across the forehead (on the left and right side, in the middle).

three dots down each cheekbone.

two dots on the chin (on the left and right side).

two dots on each side of the nose.

I do something similar.  I just rub my fingers together and dot all over my face.  No specific number.  I then blend with an iT brush I just got.  Before I was just blending with my fingers and then buffing with a dense brush.  Kinda came up with it on my own over the years.

I saw this video of Wayne's awhile ago and have been doing it and it's working pretty well.  I may add an extra dot or two after I'm done if I feel I need a bit more.

Re: 13 dot foundation technique

I only put three dots on each cheek (one is high up on my cheekbones) and blend well.  The color is a perfect match for my skin tone and having foundation up on my forehead would only emphasize wrinkles and textured skin.

What he is suggesting would bee too much for me.

Re: 13 dot foundation technique

I have always put lots of little "blobs" of foundation around my face before spreading it around with my brush.  Lately I have been mixing 2 foundations in a tiny jar, 4 pumps one foundation and 2 pumps the other (this lasts for a week or more of applications).  I use the handle tip of a small concealer brush to apply the foundation blobs and then spread around with a dense foundation brush.

That sounds like a lot of foundation to me.  I only use five and I will call them touches as opposed to dots.  And I blend with my fingers and go over it well more than once. And I feel I get a sheer look.

@NYCTem77  Wayne Goss is so great- a handsome, funny, kind, intelligent and skilled makeup artist who is all about carefully breaking down techniques so that they're easy to follow and provide professional, beautiful results.  He is such a gifted artist and I like that he doesn't use camera filters and he puts the makeup on his great face in clear and bright lighting. He is so spot on in describing the feel and look of products and how they react to the skin and different lighting conditions. Plus, he's open about having oily/combo skin and since I have oily/combo skin, I can rely on his tips for makeup application and products. He's the best! Smiley Happy
