they removed the oil in my eye on aug 27 and i am now healing for 3 months. they put a gasbubble in my eye and it will take that long for it to dissolve. but i am getting some of my vision back. i go to the dr on thursdaay and i will know more then. i pray and hope that it stays attached this time. my poor left eye has had 3 operations since march and been dialated more time then i can count.
but the great thing is that along with my vision, my balance is coming. slowly but still, ican see an improvement.
it has been a very long and hard 6 months for me. it has been like walking on a balance beam with every step. i have had to fight for every step.
it hasbeen very scary to not know if or how much i will get back

I feel your pain. I was in church with my head bowed in prayer when my retina detached. I had surgery on Monday and they put the gas bubble in my left eye. My detachement was very large so the surgeon couldn't give me too much encourgement I would get all of my site back. After the gas bubble disolved the retina detached again. I had another surgery and this time they put the oil in. I agree with you that the oil is terrible. The gas bubble is better. At my last checkup the surgeon said the retina was trying to detach again. He gave me the news that I may never be able to have the oil removed. I am blessed with great vision in my right eye. I never had a balance problem but my depth perception is very bad. I would suggest anyone who has alot of floaters to be checked by a retina specialist especially if you are getting older. They have special equipment to find any problems and fix them before you go thru what we are going thru. My problem could have been fixed with a lazer before it detached. My problem happened in June. I pray for you to have a successful outcome..

@shortbreadlover I am so glad that you are seeing improvement in your vision and your balance. I know how scary it is to feel that you might not see again, but I pray that everything continues to heal properly. Three months will go quickly and you will be fine. Try to just relax and not worry, which is easier said than done.

@shortbreadlover Thank you for letting us know, but I don’t know how you can see to type, (maybe dictate)?
I hope it works for you! Be careful not to fall even if your balance is better.
My son had laser on both eyes years ago. He couldn’t be in light at all right after it. I put newspapers on his store windows, etc even with dark glasses and a hat. But it worked. He has them checked often.
Take care!

On August 30, as I was preparing to leave for work, I felt that I had a glob of mascara on the eyelashes of my right eye. I didn't think I had anything in my eye so I headed straight to the eye doctor. After dialating my eyes and running numerous tests, it was concluded that I had some retinal tears. They immediately sent me to another town to a retinal specialist. He preformed basically the same tests and I had two tears, one more severe than the other. He did crytherapy, couldn't do laser as there was too much blood in my eye. Two weeks later and my sight is improving but I still have black dots of blood and floaters. He said it could be months before my blurry vision and dots are gone I am so thankful that it happened at the time it did, as it was a holiday weekend and I would have had to deal with it for days which would have meant further damage to my retina. I'm not sure what they would have done if I had to go to the ER with that type of problem. They told me that as we age, the gel becomes more liquid and danger is increased with nearsightedness. The gel comes loose from the back of the eye and sometimes tears the retina where it is firmly attached or can even be totally detached. Urgent care is a must. I am so thankful. I had no warning and no pain just giant black floaters and blurry vision. Get to the doctor immediately with any such type of eye issues. @shortbreadlover glad you are improving. I know how scary it is. Hugs.
