@Foxxee Definitely! Animals and nature are Gods greatest and most awe inspiring gifts. They take my breath away everday.

While I agree, for me it is more this one: My life is measured by how much I actually live it, not by the number of years that I live".

I can't say it's true for everyone. What I hear when I read this is...life is not measured by how long we live (that part I agree with) but by the high points in our lives???? That statement I struggle with.

I was running errands today...nothing too exciting. However my last stop was to a local farm to pick up some eggs. Where the farm is located it's pretty rural and very bucolic with winding roads & rolling hills....lots of open space too. It's a very pretty area. As I was leaving and about to turn onto another road I stopped for a moment to pause and take in the gorgeous scenery....the trees were in their full fall foliage making an awning over the road in their glorious colors and over a sweeping vista! OMG! It took my breath away and I felt so fortunate to be able to see it and to live in such a lovely area.
Sometimes it's the little things like that that make life so pleasurable.

I would add life is measured also by what we do to take the breath away of others.
Acts of kindness, unexpected generosity of not just money but time and compassion.
I believe we experience the joys in life not just by what surprises and delights us but also by giving surprises and delights to others.

Either you understand or you don't. Hoping someday you will.
And I pray someday you will have the opportunity.

@newname0While I was reading the quote you posted I was looking out my window at our horses peacefully grazing in the pasture and all the brightly colored fall leaves on the trees in our woods behind them. These are the little things that take my breath away.

Agree but disagree.
Life should not be measured by the number of breaths we take however it
should not be measured by the number of moments that take take our breath away.
We have many day/moments that do not take our breath away, and they probably outnumber those that will.
Everyday might be measured best by gratitude. Gratitude for the day itself, even when there are harsh days, there is some gratitude one can reflect on if one digs deep enough, and they are not moments/events that take our breath away.
