Sorry you have had that happen twice. That's happened with credit cards. Not had a problem with our debit card.
We only use it in town at basically the same places every month. The Credit Union should know if it's fraud or not?
They pay a % depending on amount in account if you use your debit card. We need to get rid of ours.

I've used a debit card for years with no problem. I'm protected just as I would be for a credit card. A couple times there were small charges when a fraudster "tried" the card, another time a $100. charg in NY state. Both times the bank caught the charges before I realized they were there. I'm issued new cards immediately.

I always use a credit card that rewards me. I use tap and go where available, which is almost everywhere. That avoids any potential skimmers.
I also always have cash on me. A perfect example of the convenience of cash is when I brought a loved one home from the hospital. He went to their pharmacy to pick up his prescriptions only to find, along with everyone else, that they had a glitch and could only do cash transactions. He asked if I had $95 on me. While others headed out of line and scrambled to an ATM I handed him the money and we were on our way.

Wagirl-if you do not have one you might consider getting an identity protection program in place-at least for a while. We had to do that a few years ago, our info was on the dark web, it was not fun.

I always use a credit card with rewards, not sure why anyone would use a debit card when you can get free money using a rewards credit card. The only thing I pay cash for is my hair stylist.

I am not saying this to be "oh I do it so much better than you" but I haven't used a debit card in years and years. I thought I would miss it but I haven't, even when I first stopped using it.
I put everything on my Discover card and pay it in full each month and love those Discover points. I use gas gift cards (purchased at Publix during their $$ off promotion) for all of my gas.
Whenever the need arises, I go to the bank (gasp) and walk inside and cash a check that is substantial enough so that I have cash for awhile. I leave it at home and dole out how much I want to carry with me.
It works great for me.

I have a debit card through my Credit Union. I also have their app on my phone and it's set up to notify me with a text for every single transaction made on the card. No need to constantly check that way. If you check your phone, you always know. Two nights ago 2 charges were made at night that were not mine. They always include a number to call if you don't recognize the charge. I called, they stopped the card and I went in to the bank today where I resolved the issue, and they printed out a new card. The Manager at my old Credit Union where I used to live, always told me to replace them regardless, a few times a year because it is inevitable. You can also set daily limits on the accounts so if something does get by you, hopefully it won't be for much. Same with credit cards. My only credit card was hacked the week before. It's a different world now. The other thing I did was download a Shell gas app and link a payment card. When you reach the station, sign in the app, then locate the station, input the pump number and you get 10 cents off every gallon, and more, for the more you use it. The bonus is, no need to use your card physically at the pump, as it's a well known fact they put skimmers on a lot of them that get the info off of your card. I do always carry cash too, but don't like the idea of having much of that on me at any one time.

Can't you add alerts to your debit card to immediately notify you of all transactions? And set a limit on the amount of the transactions. That's what I do.
Plus, I only use my debit card at the atm and keep it locked when it's not going to be used.

Debit Cards all the way. Got rid of all Credit Cards years ago and do not miss them. I'm alerted of every transaction.
Nothing else would do for me. Don't like for anyone to tell me about my Credit Card Limit.

For those who think that Debit Cards do not offer rewards, yes they do. It all depends on the Debit Card.
