This came up on my FB feed. There were 15 early warning signs of dementia posted by AARP. Number 3 had me shaking my head. I don't think these researchers ever made a large holiday dinner. Here's the quote:
3. Difficulty multitasking. If you’re someone who has always put out a Thanksgiving dinner without a hitch, and suddenly you find that staple side dishes are missing from the spread, the rolls are burned and dinner is delayed by two hours, that could signal something more serious is at play. “If it just doesn't seem like it's happening well, or it's happening with a lot more effort, that would be a sign that there are executive function issues,” Whitson says.
First of all, who doesn't put out a holiday spread without "a hitch?" It never seems like it's "happening well" to me, and it always takes so much effort and never happens on time. If this is a true indication of dementia, I started in my early 40's.

@PA Mom-mom It sounds like a joke. They can't be serious. Like you said, I host many events all year long and more often than not it doesn't go as well as I planned. ![]()

It could just mean that you are tired of hosting Thanksgiving dinners. It is the younger generation's turn to cook for Thanksgiving.

YIKES, I'm in trouble. Last month, I rolled five lbs of ground meat into meatballs and forgot to add the onions.
I didn't realize it until I was done rolling. No how, no way was I gonna add onions and reroll them.
I am always multitasking...sometimes I'm not so good at it.

@lgfan You have no idea how much we (SIL and I) wish someone would take the baton, but no one has stepped up. It may take more forgotten side dishes and burnt dinner rolls. Hahaha!

@PA Mom-mom. Members of the younger generation are not stupid. They probably won't step up until the elders quit.

I never replaced my dishes after the '94 quake. (A stroke of "good luck" for me.)

I think they put this one there just to see if the readers were paying attention. I'm usually pretty organized, but every so often I'll be preparing a meal where more than a few things go wrong. This first happened when I was helping my MIL prepare my FIL's 50th birthday party. Almost everything I touched went wrong. I was 24 at the time - a little young for dementia. It's happened a few more times since then. I'm in my 70's now and I don't think any of those recurrences foretold dementia. Sometimes, things just don't work according to plan. 😳

If that was on facebook, it might not have been the real AARP. Facebook frequently allows click-bait ads that aren't legitimate. The real ads have a blue dot by the name at the top.
