I would rather have the cash.

But the point is they want you to take the time because they feel it promotes productivity and creativity. I'd be grateful for the opportunity.

I know people who love to travel and wish they had the money to go so this would be great for them. I would prefer the cash too, just the incentive of an extra 2 large a year would encourage me to be more creative and productive.

"Some employees have said they don't need the time off"
I never did understand "the place will fall apart w/o me mentality. I really don't.
"Never argue with a fool. Onlookers may not be able to tell the difference."

Coming from a company I have worked 21 years for and we are now being pushed out in the worst way, I think this company has a great idea and they respect their employees. Where I work we are penalized for taking time off whether it be sick time, personal time or vacation time. There is no longer an incentive to come to work much less do the best job you can. It's give, give, give, and get nothing in return. It's awful to work in a cramped work space, told when we have to take a break and when to take a lunch. We are even questioned if we take too many bathroom breaks. I went from having a position where what I did was respected to now answering phone calls one after the other with no time in between each call. We were told not to try and help the caller but to think of ourselves as being in a call center and all we are needed to do is find where the call goes to and transfer them to the proper area. Some now work in an area where there is a huge tally board with everyone to see how productive each person is. It's humiliating.

It may be time to look for a new job. Remember, you only live once! Don't tell anyone you're looking, and don't leave until you're hired in the new position! Good luck!!!

Me, too! Some companies insist employees take two consecutive weeks off so that if they are embezzling or messing with the books it shows up! I'm not saying that's the case here. I just wouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth!
