Wild / Indian Strawberries

[ Edited ]

I found another interesting wild plant while searching this morning.  It's known as the Yellow flowered or Indian Strawberry!🍓

It's a ground covering perennial that spreads by runners.  It grows in moist woodlands & lawns.  It can be confused with the traditional Wild Strawberry.  However, the difference is easy to spot.  These have white flowers instead of yellow.  It's the flower that turns into the strawberry!🍓

They're not poisonous.  I ate many as a child of both varieties lol.  The only difference is these really don't have much of a taste compared to the others which definitely taste just like a strawberry.🍓

The first picture I took.  There were tons growing!  They were at the base of an Oak tree with a lot of moss.
The second is from the internet because it's not quite time for the fruit to bloom.  I just wanted to show what they looked like this way.😃

@cheriere  I call them wild strawberries.  They grow wild all over the place where I live.  Especially in the apartment private dog park.  What the deer do not eat, my dog does.

I don't bother because I ain't washing deer poop & urine off of anything!  I do see some tenents washing them off as well as wild mint inside the maintenance utility room. Smiley LOL

@cheriere

I have these all over my yard and have tasted them...no flavor.  Thanks to you, I finally know what they are.

Mostly we have weeds and wild things, since grass does not like growing in clay soil.

I'm not sure, but maybe try an internet search.  They do make a beautiful ground cover.  I read that a lot of people use them for this.😃❤️

You might know, after I posted the pic of the one strawberry.  I found a picture of a bunch that's beautiful.  It shouldn't be long until ours turn into fruit.  I got the first picture in a far corner of the yard, but there sure was a lot just around the house.  They are really pretty.🍓🍓🍓

You're welcome.❤️. I didn't know the difference in these and the regular white flower wild strawberries either.  I've ate my fair share of both though lol.😃🍓

@Mz iMac you cracked me up.  Can't imagine why you wouldn't want to wash the berries.  Lol
