I remember all of these growing up.
Didn't like a hamburger or hot dog on sandwich bread though. Mom only made it with sandwich bread if she was out of burger/hot dog buns. I still won't eat a burger/hot dog on regular bread.
Can't eat bologna anymore either.

During the summer, we always had a garden with lots of fresh tomatoes, so white bread with a good amount of mayo, sliced fresh tomatoes with salt and pepper was a favorite sandwich. We didn't have pizza back then, but my mother would make 'Tomato Pies' which were very much like what we now call 'Margherita Pizza Pie' She would make make the dough, stretch it all out on an olive oiled 9x13 baking sheet pan, put sliced fresh, ripe tomatoes on it with fresh basil and grated parmesan and/or mozzarella cheese, a little salt, black pepper and sometimes red pepper flakes and drizzled with a little olive oil. Baked in the oven. Then she would cut it into squares with her special 'tomato pie scissors'. That scissors was only used for that purpose. No pizza pie cutters back then!
I still have my Italian Grandma's"pizza" scissors! My sister took her "chicken" scissors..She could cut a whole chicken better than the butcher.
I also have her GLASS Knife..to cut greens so they didn't turn brown.
Lots of rustic foods...never had chipped beef..Noooooo

I ate cinnamon toast, fruit cocktail to which my mother added bananas and a few times a year, we were allowed Cool Aid.
I liked butter on saltines...Real butter, no margarine at my house.
My parents owned a restaurant. They had the best burgers in town. We very seldom had them or hot dogs at home unless it was for a picnic.
I grew up eating well, but didn't realize it at the time. I never had fast food until I got my driver's license.
My mother would make elbow macaroni, add butter and tomato juice for a Friday meatless meal and serve it with grilled cheese sandwitches on occasion.
That's what I served to my kids when money was tight. When my oldest son called me while he was in the military and asked for the recipe, I thought he needed money.
He said he was just homesick for a home cooked meal. That was funny.

@ciao_bella oh my you have brought back so many good memories! My Italian grandmother & mother always made"tomato pie " just the same way as your mother made hers ! And with all the garden tomatoes we also did the mayo sliced tomato sandwhiches. My mother made fried dough every Sunday and us kids would shake it hot in brown paper bags in sugar to coat it. Some call it Zeppoles we just called it pizza frite.

I had every thing but the butter and sugar sandwich. My mom made creamed dried beef every couple of Sundays rotating with pancakes when we were growing up. For years on Sundays, she would call me the night before making creamed dried beef on a Sunday morning for my dad. I would drop my kids off to CCD and go eat with my parents. I finally mastered making it, my kids and DH did not eat it!

We had lots of grilled cheese/tomato soup lunches. Mom and I ate Hormel canned tamales because they were a treat we loved. It was the only "Mexican" you could get in PA. in those days and a far cry from the real thing.
No bologna but we did make sandwiches from sliced Vienna sausages.
Cinnamon sugar toast was a frequent treat and we always buttered our saltines.
Canned fruit was a standard dessert.
@Kachina624 we always buttered our saltines too ! Had cinnamon sugar toast as a snack sometimes in the evening. Actually it was white bread , butter and sugar

Cinnamon toast and fried bologna were among my favorite foods when I was a kid. I still enjoy fried bologna, but most of the brands I've bought in the last year don't taste good to me and get fed to the dog.
In the 60's, my dad used to go to local shooting matches on Saturday night. Dad was a very good shot, and he always won something. 1st and 2nd place winners won cash, and 3rd place winners won a huge roll of bologna! Regardless of what place Dad won, my brother and I were happy, but that roll of bologna meant thick slices fried for breakfast on Sunday morning, and for sandwiches in our packed lunch; always fried, on Betsy Ross white bread with mustard! I miss that good bologna!
