Our eldest rescue baby (a cat) will cross the Rainbow Bridge this morning.

I’m against doing this, but his doctor really believes it’s time. Pops agrees with her.

He came to us when he was about 4 years old and has been with us for 9 years. He has stopped eating and only drinks a little water. He’s gone from 16 lbs. to 3ish lbs. in about 2 months. He looks like a skeleton with fur. I think a part of me keeps believing he’ll get better and he’s just going through a rough spot.

The plan is Pops takes him to his doctor and then to the Homeward Bound crematorium and then bring him back home.

I love him and just feel it’s wrong to do this. His doctor and Pops feels it’s cruel to let this go on.  I never want to be cruel to my boy, but I don’t want to say goodbye this way either.

@Malcontent

I'm so sorry that you have to face this decision, hope this will help.....Heart

IF IT SHOULD BE

If it should be that I grow weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then you must do what must be done,
For this last battle cannot be won.

You will be sad, I understand.
Don't let your grief then stay your hand.
For this day, more than all the rest,
Your love for me must stand the test.

We've had so many happy years.
What is to come can hold no fears.
You'd not want me to suffer so;
The time has come -- please let me go.

Take me where my need they'll tend,
And please stay with me till the end.
Hold me firm and speak to me,
Until my eyes no longer see.

I know in time that you will see
The kindness that you did for me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I've been saved.

Please do not grieve -- it must be you
Who had this painful thing to do.
We've been so close, we two, these years;
Don't let your heart hold back its tears.

Oh, I am so sorry and of course you feel the way you do.  Your baby boy is letting you know that he is ready to leave and it is so hard to say goodbye.  He will always be in your heart. It is ok to let yourself grieve, I am sending you so much love during this difficult time.💓

It is the hardest, most painful decision we have to make as pet parents.

Prayers to you on this day.

@Malcontent .................So very sorry you are having to go through this heartbreaking time.

None of us want to make the decision you need to make and you have to try and be at peace with it.  It would be beyond cruel and heartless to keep your baby alive.  This is one of the sad things we have to accept when we have pets.  Do we want to?  No, but its necessary.  Do we want to say goodbye no, but there is not a choice.

Again, I am sorry for your heartache.
